Summary
We are seeking a skilled Second Shift Maintenance Technician (3:00pm - 11:30pm) to join our facilities team. Preferably with a strong background in residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing, to join our facility operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment, infrastructure, and utility systems during off-peak operational hours as well as responding to emergency/unforeseen facility issues that may arise during second shift hours.
Responsibilities and Duties
- MEP Systems Maintenance/Inspection: Coordinate with Assistant Director of Campus Safety, Second Shift Safety Officers to monitor mechanical/electrical rooms of all campus buildings during shift to document/address abnormalities (leaks, outages, etc.)
- Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Identify issues with piping networks, pressure drops, leaks, clogs, water temperature issues,
- Preventive Maintenance (PM): Perform routine PM tasks on pumps, boilers, backflow assemblies, drains, and fluid transportation lines according to scheduled maintenance programs.
- General Maintenance Repairs: Assist with general 2nd-shift facility maintenance, potentially including basic electrical work, HVAC filter/belt replacements, pneumatic systems, general carpentry repairs, custodial duties and painting.
- Emergency Response: Act as the point of contact and primary responder for urgent facility issues during the second shift, including water leaks, pipe bursts, drainage backups, outages, or pressure failures - both on campus and at the homes in the community maintained by Mercersburg Academy.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all plumbing work complies with local plumbing codes, OSHA guidelines, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, and internal safety policies.
- Documentation: Log all work orders, parts usage, inspection reports, and maintenance activities within the FMX platform.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to bend, stoop, lift up to 50 lbs., walk up multiple steps, climb ladders and extension ladders for outside use. May also be required to work on man lifts, scaffolding and building roofs.
- Must be able to load a van with heavy equipment, supplies, and deliver to appropriate areas as needed.
- Must be able to work independently with little supervision and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- General vehicle maintenance or mechanical knowledge to allow for determining vehicle functional condition and serviceability.
- Must exhibit the ability to work in a team environment.
- Must follow safety procedures in all situations.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Two plus years of hands-on experience in commercial, industrial, or large-scale residential plumbing maintenance or installation. Experience with other skilled trades may be considered to be equivalent.
- Certifications: Journeyman Plumber license or equal, Backflow Prevention certification, or relevant vocational trade credentials highly preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in working with various piping materials (PVC, CPVC, Copper, Cast Iron, PEX, Black Iron).
- Expertise in pipe sweating, soldering, threading, brazing, and press-fitting methods.
- Deep understanding of pumps, pressure regulators, valves, and fluid dynamics.
- Ability to read and interpret blue prints, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and plumbing schematics.
- Shift Readiness: Must be fully available to work 2nd shift hours, overtime, and occasional weekend shifts if emergency needs arise.
- Valid driver’s license.
