Safety Worxs is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Specialist to support the high-profile Dam project in Washington. This is a field-focused safety role supporting construction operations and ensuring compliance with project safety requirements, EM 385-1-1, OSHA regulations, and established safety procedures.
The position will initially support the project on its current schedule and is expected to transition to night shift over time. The ideal candidate has hands-on construction safety experience, is comfortable working independently in the field, and can effectively identify hazards and work with project teams to implement corrective actions.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily jobsite safety inspections and identify, document, and assist with correcting hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Support implementation of project safety programs in accordance with EM 385-1-1, OSHA, and project-specific requirements.
- Assist with the development and implementation of project-specific safety plans and hazard mitigation strategies.
- Develop and document Daily Risk Assessments (DRAs) and other required safety documentation.
- Participate in daily coordination meetings, pre-task planning, and safety discussions.
- Monitor field activities and reinforce safe work practices with employees and subcontractors.
- Identify safety equipment and material needs for upcoming work activities.
- Assist with incident investigations, documentation, root-cause identification, and corrective actions.
- Provide first aid and emergency response support as needed.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance and assist with resolving safety deficiencies.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety meetings, and field safety briefings.
- Maintain accurate inspection, observation, incident, and corrective-action records.
- Track safety observations and identify recurring hazards or trends requiring additional attention.
- Partner with project leadership and field teams to promote a proactive safety culture.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of construction safety experience required.
- Working knowledge of EM 385-1-1 requirements.
- OSHA 30 Construction certification required.
- EM 385-1-1 40-Hour certification required or ability to obtain.
- CPR/First Aid certification required or ability to obtain.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction hazards, equipment, methods, and safe work practices.
- Ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for jobsite hazards.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in an active construction environment.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of responsibilities, and follow through with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be willing and able to transition to night shift as project needs evolve.
