Quality Engineering Lead (m/f/d)

Shopware is a leading ecommerce system that enables companies worldwide to scale quickly and efficiently in digital commerce. As a trendsetting open source solution, Shopware is already used by some of the largest European brands, retailers and manufacturers in the B2C and B2B industries.

As Quality Engineering Lead, you will lead and develop a team of quality engineers and help improve the reliability of Shopware’s commerce platform. You will combine people leadership with hands-on testing and automation, working with engineering and product colleagues to identify risks early and improve how we build and release software.

You will translate company goals and product priorities into a quality-engineering roadmap with clear, measurable improvement goals. You will set priorities, delegate work, and contribute directly to complex testing challenges.

• Lead, coach and develop the team through regular feedback, performance conversations and career development. Support hiring and onboarding.

• Define the testing strategy and quality standards across product teams with engineering colleagues. Prioritise and distribute quality-engineering work according to product risks, roadmap commitments and team capacity.

• Contribute hands-on to test design, automation and exploratory testing. Help investigate complex failures and validate changes that affect multiple parts of the product.

• Support quality engineers, developers and product managers across teams in implementing the testing strategy and addressing quality early in planning and development.

• Improve testing tools and practices, including responsible use of AI-assisted testing. Use customer issues, defects and test reliability to identify where improvements are needed.

• Support product releases by communicating test findings, remaining risks and a clear quality recommendation to the colleagues coordinating the release.

• Experience managing a technical team, including coaching, performance conversations and individual development.

• Hands-on experience in software testing, test strategy and automation, including approaches such as end-to-end, API, integration or component testing.

• Experience defining and presenting quality metrics, and using them alongside test findings and risk assessment to identify gaps and guide decisions.

• The ability to set priorities, delegate work and collaborate effectively with engineering and product colleagues.

• Clear written and spoken English, with the ability to explain technical issues and trade-offs. German is not required.

Experience with e-commerce, open-source software, cloud applications, upgrades and migrations, or AI-assisted development and testing would be useful. Prior Shopware knowledge is not required.
