Build the solution. Set the technical standard.
Strata Information Group (SIG) is a US-based leader in higher education technology consulting. We help colleges and universities modernise their student information, HR and finance systems through ERP/SIS implementation, integration, digital transformation, CRM and cybersecurity work.
We are building our first engineering Centre of Excellence in Pune. This is a founding-team role: you will help establish how the team designs and builds. You will own technical architecture across application integrations, Ellucian Experience Cards, workflow automation and data migration—and write a meaningful part of the production code yourself. This role carries delivery accountability, not just design accountability.
Ellucian experience is not required. Deep integration expertise, direct US client delivery experience and the ability to learn a new platform quickly are essential.
What you will do
- Own architecture and delivery: Design secure integrations, web applications, identity solutions and workflow automation on Ellucian platforms. Document practical designs that work within platform, infrastructure and timeline constraints, and stay hands-on with production code.
- Build platform expertise: Learn Ellucian Ethos, Experience, Workflow, Banner/Colleague data structures and the API catalogue, then turn that knowledge into reusable patterns and documentation.
- Lead and mentor: Run architecture and code reviews, resolve complex technical problems and help new engineers become productive through hands-on guidance.
- Work directly with US clients: Lead technical discovery, explain designs and trade-offs, and support project scoping, estimation and technical proposals.
- Lead data migration: Own source analysis, mapping, transformation, validation, reconciliation and cutover into Ellucian platforms.
- Deliver and improve: Meet your assigned annual billable utilisation target alongside mentoring and design reviews. Use AI coding assistants responsibly and contribute to SIG’s internal AI development tools.
What you will bring
- Engineering and consulting experience: 10+ years of professional software engineering, including at least 5 years delivering for external clients in consulting or professional services. Direct experience leading technical discussions, presenting designs and managing expectations with US-based clients is required.
- Deep integration and API expertise: Experience designing, securing, versioning and operating integrations at scale—not simply consuming REST endpoints. Strong command of synchronous REST, event-driven, message-based, batch, file-based and ETL integrations; point-to-point and hub models; JSON, pagination, rate limits, idempotency, retries, versioning and webhooks.
- Identity and security: Hands-on SAML 2.0 and single sign-on (SSO), including troubleshooting failed assertions; working knowledge of OIDC, identity providers, federation, attribute and role mapping, and provisioning. Strong OAuth 2.0, JWT, API key, token and scope design, least-privilege service-account access, secrets handling and secure data exchange skills.
- Hands-on web engineering: Expert-level TypeScript and React.js, including component architecture, state management and performance; deep server-side Node.js, including API design, asynchronous patterns, error handling, dependency management and production debugging. Ability to design end-to-end web applications across the client, APIs, services, data, caching, sessions and deployment.
- Workflow and data delivery: Business process automation expertise and hands-on experience with a workflow or business process management (BPM) tool. Experience planning and executing enterprise data migrations, plus SQL, relational data modelling, Git and modern continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) practices.
- Technical leadership and learning: Demonstrated architecture leadership and mentoring, sound judgement within delivery constraints, clear written and spoken English, and a specific example of learning an unfamiliar platform quickly. Fluency with AI-assisted development, including verifying and explaining AI-generated output before release.
Preferred experience—not essential
- Ellucian Banner, Colleague, Ethos, Experience or Workflow; higher education technology; or enterprise resource planning (ERP), student information systems (SIS), human resource management systems (HRMS) or finance platforms.
- Postman, OpenAPI/Swagger, GraphQL or API gateways; AWS S3, SFTP and secure file exchange.
- AI/ML tools, large language model (LLM) APIs, prompt engineering, internal developer tools or AI-assisted automated testing.
- Low-code/no-code platforms, distributed teams across time zones, or pre-sales solution design and estimation.
Your first months at SIG
We will provide access to Ellucian training and certification, with platform badges targeted within your first 60 days; direct knowledge transfer from SIG’s experienced US consultants; and a defined onboarding deliverable so you start building real solutions early. We expect you to start contributing within two months and to be teaching others within six.
Outside the required US overlap window, you manage your own hours. We care about what you deliver, not when you are logged in. If you want to keep building, help engineers develop and shape a new team’s technical standards, this role is for you.
