Heavy Truck Driver 


The BEST Group – a group of Bermudian companies providing services in the fleet, freight, logistics, shipping, trucking, and warehousing industries has an immediate vacancy for a Heavy Truck Driver to join Joe Vieira Trucking Ltd. team on a full-time basis. 


The Heavy Truck Driver would be expected to utilize a fleet of vehicles including light, intermediate, heavy trucks, crane trucks and forklifts to transport cargo, goods, and materials from one location to another. Furthermore, the heavy truck driver will be responsible to load the assigned truck, abide by traffic laws and ensure safe unloading and delivery at the end destination. The Heavy Truck Driver must hold a valid heavy truck license and a dock pass or be able to obtain a valid dock pass.



Main Responsibilities

1. Heavy Truck Driver 

  • Receive instructions and work order from supervisor/dispatch and follow instructions to locate pickup/delivery locations.
  • Execute delivery duties as assigned by supervisor/dispatch.
  • Responsible to securely load, deliver, and unload cargo, goods, and materials.
  • Report any incidents on the road to dispatch that may cause delays or impact scheduling/customers.
  • Operate vehicles safely to transport and deliver cargo, goods, and materials.
  • Follow all traffic laws while operating company vehicles and performing duties.
  • Assist physically and/or operate a forklift to load and off-load containers/trucks where applicable.
  • Maintain frequent communication with dispatch, including arrival and completion times of jobs.
  • Be presentable at all times and adhere to company uniform policy.
  • Oversee and assign duties to the truck driver assistant.
  • Keep records of time, service descriptions, and required paperwork, including obtaining customer signatures and collecting payments where applicable.


2. Relocations

  • Unpack, assemble, and disassemble goods when required; wrap and pack goods for export/relocations.
  • Adhere to prescribed packing methodology and relocation guidelines.
  • Assist with completing in/out supply sheets.
  • Assist with creating and completing manifests.
  • Assist with labelling and numbering goods according to manifest.


3. Damages

  • Report damages and accidents involving company vehicles immediately as per process.
  • Report damages to customer goods and complete required documentation with supporting evidence.
  • Complete supporting documentation for customer goods damages when required.


4. Equipment and Machinery

  • Report vehicle, equipment, and machinery defects to supervisor/dispatch.
  • Share responsibility for assigned tool bag, including daily check-in/out and ensuring all tools are returned.
  • Complete weekly vehicle checklists and conduct routine inspections, including basic maintenance checks (e.g., fluid levels) under supervision, and report maintenance needs.
  • Clean the interior and exterior of assigned vehicles.


5. Health and Safety

  • Operate all vehicles, equipment, and machinery safely.
  • Adhere to all health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure all certifications, training, and licenses remain valid as required.
  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness, accessibility, and safety standards.


6. Customer Service

  • Proactively respond to and serve customers and colleagues with a positive and professional attitude to ensure customer needs and expectations are met.


Minimum Qualifications and Experience

1. Mandatory:

  • Valid heavy truck driver’s licence.
  • Valid dock pass and/ or the ability to obtain one. 
  • Valid forklift certification (where applicable).
  • Proven experience operating light and intermediate trucks (1–2 years).
  • Proven experience operating forklifts in a hands-on capacity (1–2 years).
  • Knowledge and adherence to traffic laws, road safety regulations, and company safety procedures.
  • Physically fit and able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and perform manual handling tasks.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and variable weather conditions.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with dispatch, customers, and team members.


2. Preferred: 

  • Clean safety record (no negligence-related damages or safety violations).
  • Experience working in a fast-paced logistics, delivery, loading, or unloading environment (6–12 months).
  • Experience operating a full fleet of vehicles including heavy trucks, box trucks, and flatbeds.
  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Valid dock pass / LIC pass (or ability to obtain).
  • Experience with relocations, packing, unpacking, and goods handling processes.
  • Experience in supervising or working closely with assistants or crew members.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse and yard safety practices.
  • Experience working in customer-facing delivery environments.
