JOB PURPOSE (why the position exists and with what objectives) The primary role of a fleet manager is to supervise and manage all aspects of a company's commercial vehicles, drivers, and associated resources. This includes the strategic and efficient management of the company's vehicle fleet, ensuring compliance with policies, enhancing cost-effectiveness, and optimizing performance. This multifaceted role encompasses procurement, maintenance, personnel management, and data analysis, all aimed at delivering top-notch client service and maintaining regulatory compliance MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY 1. Driver Management: monitoring and enhancing driving behaviours, mentoring and rewarding drivers, and overseeing recruitment and discipline. Evaluating performance, setting schedules, and ensuring compliance with transport regulations. He/she is expected to maintain open communication with drivers, provide necessary information and technologies, and offer training on safety and risk management protocols. 2. Logistic management, prepare and perform smooth and fast country border crossings. Loading and off loading at customers in East Africa. 3. HSEC Compliance: The role necessitates a strong commitment to Health, Safety, Environment, and Compliance standards (HSEC), in the countries of operation. 4. Maintenance Partnerships: Collaborate with reputable repair and maintenance facilities in strategic locations to ensure that companies trucks can be fixed if at all breakdowns occur enroute. 5. Client Service: Uphold excellent client service standards through the efficient management of the fleet, timely delivery and maintaining a clear database of clients. 6. Performance Analysis: Analyse fleet performance data and implement improvements as needed. 7. Maintenance Scheduling: Oversee and schedule vehicle inspections, maintenance, and servicing to minimize downtime. Maintain detailed vehicle information and inspection records. 8. Route Optimization: Develop efficient driver schedules and routes to maximize profitability. 9. Cost Efficiency: Identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary expenses and enhance fuel efficiency within the fleet. 10. Asset Security: Implement measures to safeguard vehicles, drivers, and related assets during work-related activities. Ensuring all Health and safety regulations are adhered to. 11. Registration and Insurance: Register and ensure proper licensing and insurance for all company vehicles. 12. Vehicle Procurement: Acquire company vehicles through lease, purchase, or other suitable methods in alignment with company requirements. 13. Provide reports to upper management on: Issues and bottlenecks detected in fleet operations, Fleet’s performance and expenses, budgets and major purchases, costs of fleet operations, plans and sets fleet-level targets. 14. Any other duties assigned by the supervisor. WORKING CONDITIONS Frequent travel Road trips and travel by flight. Light to moderate lifting required. Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor's degree in Logistics or Any related field Work experience: 5 years’ industry experience in managing fleet. Experience or knowledge in Motor Vehicle maintenance is preferred Computer skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Word Fleet Management Systems (GPS tracking) Language: English proficiency both written and spoken. French will be a bonus. Other Requirements: A valid driving license is essential; a Truck license (GCLA, NIT, or VETA) is a significant advantage. FUNCTIONAL SKILLS 1.
