That’s what we do. We never stop learning. We never stop challenging the norm. We push for better, and we celebrate the wins along the way. Here, you’ll get flexibility that’s real, benefits you can count on, and a team that succeeds together. Because at UKG, your work matters—and so do you. Role Purpose The Cloud Patching and Backup team is seeking a Software Engineer III to strengthen Tanium-based Linux patching, vulnerability remediation, and automation across UKG cloud and data-center environments. The role combines hands-on Linux engineering with software-focused automation and cross-team operational ownership. About the Team The Cloud Patching and Backup team provides management services for UKG cloud and on-premise environments, supporting product maintenance, security, availability, and resilience through operating-system patching, Tanium-based endpoint management, systems automation, observability, backup integration, and coordinated production changes. Responsibilities The engineer will serve as a Linux subject matter expert for Cloud Engineering and use Tanium to plan, target, deploy, monitor, and validate patching across development, test, disaster-recovery, non-production, and production environments. Responsibilities include maintaining Tanium packages, actions, deployments, schedules, targeting logic, and compliance reporting; troubleshooting patch applicability, installation failures, pending reboots, configuration drift, and post-patch service issues; and improving deployment reliability through Python tooling and DevOps practices such as Git, code review, CI/CD, testing, logging, and documentation. The role will coordinate patch plans and emergency vulnerability remediation with application, database, security, SRE, and regional operations teams while supporting observability, formal change controls, maintenance windows, and an on-call rotation. Scope and Level Expectations Independently lead complex Tanium-based Linux patching initiatives from problem definition through implementation, validation, and operational handoff. Coordinate work across environments, regions, product pillars, and partner teams while maintaining production safety and clear communication. Identify recurring operational problems, turn them into automation or reliability improvements, and mentor engineers and operations partners. Core Qualifications Five or more years of experience in Linux systems engineering, administration, software engineering, or a related field. Strong enterprise Linux experience, including system upgrades, package management, services, filesystems, storage, networking, and troubleshooting. Hands-on experience using Tanium or a comparable enterprise platform to target, deploy, monitor, troubleshoot, and report on operating-system patches across large server fleets. Strong Python skills for operational tooling, automation, integrations, data processing, and maintainable code, with experience using Git, CI/CD, and infrastructure or configuration as code. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also required. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Ansible, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Terraform, or comparable DevOps automation tools. Experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure; hybrid cloud operations; and large, geographically distributed server fleets. Experience with vulnerability remediation, CVE prioritization, security scanning, observability tools, or enterprise backup platforms such as Veeam or Commvault. Working Relationships This role works closely with Cloud Infrastructure, security and vulnerability teams, application and database engineering, SRE, observability, backup, change management, and regional operations. Success depends on translating Linux engineering decisions into safe production execution, measurable reliability improvements, and clear operational handoffs.
