Surerus Murphy Joint Venture

ROLE
We are a large North American construction company, but we build more than projects. We have developed a proprietary Digital Operations platform that runs across our entire organization, supported by an in-house technology stack spanning custom applications, cloud infrastructure, data integrations, and enterprise analytics. We operate a full software development lifecycle internally, from requirements through architecture, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support. This is real product development work driving real operational outcomes at scale.

As the Digital Product Lead, you will own what we ship, from an unstructured business problem through to a production solution used every day across Commercial, Finance, Procurement, Equipment Fleet, and People operations. The role is embedded into the operations of our business, and the role is a mix between technical engineering and operational business analysis. You will spend time with our operations teams, because software that is genuinely purpose-built comes from understanding the work, and everything we build exists to serve one outcome: the successful delivery of projects.
This role is intended for someone who cares deeply about the craft of software delivery: clean code, thoughtful architecture, maintainable solutions, high-quality user experiences, and production outcomes that meet an extremely high internal standard.

You will write production code and make the architectural decisions that ensure we’re developing an innovative and sustainable platform. You will sit with our operational teams to understand their business process and challenges, and return with a solution spanning process and technology, and then plan, develop, and implement an end-to-end solution. You will own the user experience standard for everything the platform delivers, and the judgment about whether a solution is genuinely finished.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Own assigned initiatives end to end, from problem definition through requirements, design, build, testing, deployment, adoption, and handover to ongoing support.
  • Engage directly with functional leaders across Commercial, Finance, Procurement, Equipment Fleet, and People operations to diagnose process problems at root cause rather than at stated symptom.
  • Understand business operations and be able to communicate to all levels of the organization about how technology supports improved business outcomes, clearly articulating how investment in this area drives real operational outcomes.
  • Be extremely focused on UI/UX excellence to ensure all deployments of new solutions meet our internal expectations and deliver a superior experience to users.
  • Produce solution recommendations spanning process redesign, technology approach, and implementation, including an honest assessment of what should not be built.
  • Represent the Digital Operations platform in governance forums, functional leadership meetings, and vendor discussions as required.
  • Define and enforce the standard of completion for platform initiatives, covering acceptance criteria, adoption, support readiness, and documentation.
  • Run user acceptance testing and pilot deployments directly with business users, resolving the edge cases and process gaps that surface only under real use.
  • Drive adoption following go-live through training, direct user support, feedback capture, and the iteration cycles that turn a deployed solution into a used one.
  • Make solution architecture decisions within the DataCore, Applications, and Insights model, ensuring every build contributes reusable capability.
  • Write production code, setting the standard for code quality through review and example.
  • Provide technical direction, code review, and mentorship to developers.
  • Establish and maintain engineering practices including source control discipline, environment strategy, release management, testing approach, and technical documentation.
  • Evaluate emerging capability across Microsoft Power Platform, Azure, and AI tooling, and determine what warrants adoption on evidence rather than novelty.

Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Interaction Design, Information Systems, business analytics or a related field. Equivalent demonstrated experience will be considered. Operational experience is considered an asset.

Experience
  • Minimum six years in software development, product engineering, digital solution delivery, or enterprise systems implementation.
  • Demonstrated ownership of solutions from problem definition through to production deployment and sustained user adoption, evidenced with specific examples.
  • Demonstrated responsibility for user experience quality on products with real users.
  • Experience working directly with non-technical business stakeholders to define and reshape processes, not solely to gather stated requirements.
  • Depth is not required in all areas listed below, but breadth across several is expected:
    • Microsoft Power Platform: Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, Copilot Studio
    • Line-level coding ability in one or more of: JavaScript, TypeScript, C#, Swift, Python
    • Front-end development and modern interface implementation, including responsive and mobile-first design
    • Azure cloud services, functions, storage, database services, API management
    • REST API design, consumption, and integration patterns
    • SQL query writing, data modeling, and Microsoft Power BI dataset and report development
    • Source control, environment management, and release practices (Git, ALM)
    • Design tooling and design system development (Figma or equivalent)
    • Enterprise systems exposure in construction, engineering, energy, or a comparable operational industry

Skills and Knowledge
  • The discipline to carry work through the final stage of delivery, including edge cases, testing, training, adoption, and handover, rather than moving on to the next problem.
  • A demonstrable standard for interface and interaction quality, and the willingness to hold work to it, including your own and including under schedule pressure.
  • A high personal bar for engineering quality, including clean, maintainable code, disciplined testing, thoughtful architecture, and the confidence to challenge work that does not meet the product or technical standard.
  • Diagnostic ability, reaching the real problem behind the stated request and comfortable guiding stakeholders to the best solution.
  • Architectural discipline, deciding what gets built where so that work compounds, and declining approaches that deliver quickly but fragment the platform.
  • Ability to set technical direction and quality standards through influence rather than reporting authority.
  • Effective communication skills, able to explain technical trade-offs to business stakeholders and business trade-offs to developers with equal clarity.
  • Self-motivated with strong time management, able to manage competing priorities and deliver under deadlines.
  • A bias toward shipped outcomes, measured on what is in production and used rather than what is designed or in progress.
