Senior Mechanical Engineer

We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical / Piping Engineer to join our established Gladstone team.

In this role, you will deliver practical engineering solutions across studies, brownfield upgrades and detailed design for operating facilities in industries including alumina refining, aluminium smelting, LNG and industrial chemicals.

This is a genuine doer-seller opportunity for an engineer who enjoys combining high-quality technical delivery with trusted client engagement. You will remain hands-on in engineering while building relationships, understanding client needs, shaping solutions and helping convert opportunities into sustainable work for the local team.

You will work close to client sites and see your designs progress into construction and operation, often within a relatively short timeframe. The role offers autonomy, direct access to decision-makers and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to major industrial facilities across the region.

• →Lead and deliver mechanical and piping engineering activities from concept development through detailed design and site implementation.
• →Produce and review calculations, specifications, reports, scopes of work, datasheets and technical documentation.
• →Develop practical brownfield solutions that consider safety, constructability, operability, maintainability, cost and schedule.
• →Engage directly with clients, operators, maintainers, vendors and multidisciplinary project teams.
• →Visit operating sites to investigate problems, verify conditions and support construction and commissioning activities.
• →Manage technical quality, engineering risk, budgets and delivery commitments for assigned work.
• →Mentor engineers and designers and contribute to a collaborative regional team culture.
• →Build trusted, long-term relationships with existing and prospective clients.
• →Listen to operational challenges and translate them into practical, value-adding engineering solutions.
• →Identify upcoming work, support account planning and contribute to the regional opportunity pipeline.
• →Develop scopes, estimates, methodologies and proposal content and participate in client presentations.
• →Connect technical delivery with commercial awareness, ensuring commitments are clear, achievable and aligned with client expectations.
• →Represent Worley professionally in the local market and strengthen our reputation through responsive and reliable delivery.

• A recognised degree in Mechanical Engineering and relevant professional experience.
• Current registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), or eligibility and a commitment to obtain RPEQ registration within an agreed timeframe.
• Strong mechanical and/or piping engineering experience in mining, minerals processing, energy, chemicals or other heavy industrial facilities.
• Demonstrated experience with brownfield studies, design and site-based engineering.
• Confidence engaging with clients and stakeholders at operational, technical and leadership levels.
• A track record of taking ownership, solving problems and delivering work safely and reliably.
• Commercial awareness and an interest in business development, proposals and opportunity conversion.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, sound judgement and a collaborative working style.
• Eligibility to work in Australia and a current driver licence.
