SUMMARY

The Manager – Shipping & Logistics is responsible for overseeing the full scope of shipping, fulfillment, and driver operations at the culinary center level — ensuring that all food products are accurately packed, stored, and delivered to the correct school and district locations on time, in compliance with food safety, HACCP, and quality standards. This role manages day-to-day shipping operations, driver scheduling, vehicle fleet maintenance, inventory control through Edison, and route coordination, while providing direct leadership and development to warehouse and driver team members. A strong commitment to food safety compliance, operational accuracy, team accountability, and continuous improvement are fundamental expectations of this role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES

Shipping, Order Fulfillment & Food Safety Compliance

  • Inspect all food products prior to loading into delivery vehicles using the approved single-style packing and shipping ticket form; verify that all packed products are placed in the correct pre-designated locations within refrigerators and/or freezers and that all routes are pre-packed, arranged by route, and labeled with contents and delivery destination prior to the day of delivery.
  • Review all sales orders and shipping tickets for all school locations and area managers the same day they are issued; ensure that all Daily Food Reports are returned each day to the Shipping Manager signed, dated, with meal counts and receiving temperatures accurately noted.
  • Conduct daily review and validation of all Edison shipments; maintain all inventory records in Edison in accordance with FIFO rules and lot integrity requirements; perform weekly inventory counts and maintain accurate records, and complete a full final inventory at end of month.
  • Maintain a standard schedule for all shipping and fulfillment operations and communicate any adjustments to the Director of Operations for review and approval.

Driver Management & Route Operations

  • Schedule drivers on a weekly basis and assign route operations; cross-train team members on district routes, supply ordering, vehicle repair reporting, and fuel log entry to ensure operational continuity.
  • Monitor and manage fuel usage within the parameters established by the District; conduct monthly reviews of all fuel reports and address any discrepancies with the appropriate driver immediately.
  • Enforce daily driver logs and vehicle sign-out sheets; maintain accurate records of driver-vehicle assignments and manage EZPass operations.
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings with team members to review delivery schedules, USDA inventory, and vehicle maintenance issues; develop and lead all driver and utility team members toward their highest potential through action plans and ongoing progress tracking.

Vehicle Maintenance & Fleet Oversight

  • Oversee and enforce the existing Preventive Maintenance program on all vehicles; maintain accurate records of all repairs and services logged in the repair book by vehicle; review all vehicle repair books weekly to identify service needs and schedule with approved authorized repair shops only.
  • Inspect all vehicles daily for interior and exterior cleanliness and damage; record any physical damage inconsistencies in the Preventive Maintenance book; rotate vehicles on a weekly basis to prevent over-use and extend fleet life.
  • Ensure all vehicles are safe to operate and properly equipped with jacks, spare tires, safety kits with reflectors, flares, and fire extinguishers; maintain a complete set of keys for all vehicles and collect a key from any vehicle on property, whether at the culinary center or off-site.

Training, Safety & Compliance

  • Conduct in-service training on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and document all results for the Operations Manager; conduct bi-weekly safety training sessions for all warehouse and driver team members and maintain complete training records.
  • Oversee all daily operations including order picking for all school locations; manage the fulfillment operations team and ensure the management team reports accurately and on time.
