Re-Scripting Gender, Work, Family, and Care, the entertainment initiative at New America, is part of the Thriving Families cluster, which focuses on family economic security and well-being. The entertainment initiative was founded in 2022 to leverage television and film storytelling to shape narratives and culture around gender equity, work-family justice, caregiving, and related topics. It produces materials, commissions research, and provides consultation to help creators and executives tell rich, meaningful stories that explore these topics, and amplifies television shows, films, and online media projects that treat these issues thoughtfully. The advice we provide and the resources we create are grounded in research, data, and expertise in the substantive topics on which we provide consultation.

Our preference is to fill this position on a full-time basis, but we are open to considering a fractional (part-time) arrangement for candidates with additional relevant experience who meet both the required and preferred qualifications for the role. Compensation for a fractional arrangement may differ from the posted full-time salary range and is determined by the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and agreed-upon work schedule. Benefits eligibility would depend on scheduled hours and New America’s applicable benefit plans.

New America offers a highly competitive benefits package that includes health care, dental, and vision coverage; a generous retirement plan; paid time off; observes all federal holidays; and an office-wide closure between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Location: Los Angeles- or New York-based candidates are preferred, though applicants based elsewhere in the United States are also encouraged to apply.

Travel: We do not expect this role to involve extensive travel, but occasional trips to Los Angeles and New York, as well as to film festivals in other cities, may be required depending on the initiative's needs and other team members’ travel schedules.

Application Process:

Please submit a current resume and a PDF with three to five design and/or social media work samples. A short cover letter is helpful, but not required. In line with New America’s policy, please do not submit any work or writing that was conceptualized, designed, or produced by generative AI tools.

The deadline to apply is November 6, 2026, and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

No phone calls or emails will be answered.

All application materials, including cover letters, writing samples, and any other submissions, must be solely your own original work. The use of generative AI tools (i.e., ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini; other large language models; and programs or plugins that use artificial intelligence to generate text, images, and designs) is strictly prohibited for any part of your job application. Submissions found to contain AI-generated content will be immediately disqualified from consideration. Applicants are responsible for being fully transparent about authorship and any tools or resources used. We celebrate human ingenuity and want to hear your genuine thoughts and experiences.
