EngineeringPower Systems Engineer

As a Power Systems Engineer at Revamp, you will deliver the electrical studies that make utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) projects safe, reliable, and ready to connect to the grid. You will model collection systems and project substations, run load flow, short circuit, arc flash, coordination, grounding, ampacity, and harmonic analyses, and turn the results into recommendations that project teams and clients use to make design decisions. You will work closely with project managers, electrical designers, and the High Voltage team, and your studies help move clean energy projects from design to energization.

We value engineers who check their work carefully, share what they learn, and treat every teammate and client with respect. This role can be performed remotely from the US or Canada. Candidates may be considered at either the Engineer II or Engineer III level depending on experience, technical depth, independence, and demonstrated ability to lead scope.

As an employee-owner, you would directly participate in the success of our mission-driven business, founded to support the transition to renewable energy sources.

Across both levels, this role may include:

  • →Perform power system studies for utility-scale PV and BESS projects, including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, protective device coordination, grounding, ampacity, harmonics, and power quality.
  • →Build and maintain system models in ETAP, CDEGS, CYMCAP, or similar tools from single-line diagrams, equipment data, and utility information.
  • →Design medium-voltage collection systems, including cable routing, cable sizing, and voltage drop and loss calculations.
  • →Develop equipment specifications and settings recommendations for inverters, BESS, transformers, switchgear, and cable systems.
  • →Evaluate, select, and apply standard study methods and criteria, and adapt them for nonroutine aspects of an assignment.
  • →Prepare study reports, calculations, and drawings that state assumptions, results, and recommended design changes.
  • →Prepare load flow and dynamic models for interconnection work using vendor-provided inverter and plant controller models.
  • →Automate repetitive modeling and reporting tasks with Python or similar tools.
  • →Perform essential duties including meeting deliverables and deadlines.
  • →Perform additional related duties as assigned or directed.
  • Apply the NEC, NFPA 70E, applicable IEEE standards such as IEEE 80 and IEEE 1584, and utility requirements to every study and design.
  • Check model inputs and results against project data before release, and document assumptions so reviewers can trace them.
  • Resolve review comments from senior engineers and clients and track each one to closure.
  • Coordinate study inputs and results with project managers, PV BESS electrical designers, and the High Voltage team.
  • Communicate with clients, equipment vendors, and subcontractors to gather data and clarify study requirements.
  • Attend project meetings and present study findings and their design implications.
  • Share study methods, tools, and lessons learned with the Power System Studies team.
  • Lead multiple study projects at once, owning scope, schedule, and budget for assigned studies.
  • Formulate and solve complex or unconventional study problems, seeking guidance only when necessary.
  • Review studies prepared by less experienced engineers for technical accuracy and sound judgment.
  • Assign tasks to and mentor staff engineers, and develop work plans for discipline team members.
  • Support client interaction across multiple projects in a portfolio and assist with proposals and study scopes.

Requirements
