About the Role
~1 min readWe're modernizing how ComPsych builds technology — new customer-facing web and mobile experiences, a unified design system, and AI-powered capabilities across our products. That means raising the engineering bar for how we design, build, and operate software, with Engineering, Product, and Design working together end to end.
AI isn't a productivity add-on here — it's how we build. Our engineers use agentic development as standard equipment, moving from problem to production-ready code faster than traditional development allows, while keeping the work reviewable and maintainable. We're looking for a Senior Mobile Engineer who already works this way and wants to own significant parts of our mobile foundation. Mobile Engineers are software engineers first, held to the same bar for design, testing, performance, security, and production quality as everyone else — with added depth in mobile platforms, app architecture, device behavior, and release engineering. Our apps carry behavioral health data for millions of members, so reliability, privacy, and correctness are non-negotiable.
Responsibilities
~2 min readAI changes what your time goes toward. You're still accountable for the full mobile lifecycle within your area — architecture, implementation, testing, review, release, production — but your hands-on role in each shifts.
- →Own a mobile product area end to end. Take responsibility for its architecture, delivery, release path, and production behavior, including the shared capabilities other teams rely on.
- →Set technical direction for the mobile platform. Shape the shared architecture behind a codebase that ships multiple branded apps, deciding what stays shared and what diverges.
- →Turn hard mobile problems into executable plans. Frame the problem, sequence the work, and define what “done” looks like on a real device in a member's hand — with specs clear enough for AI agents to execute against.
- →Partner with Product, Design, and QA to shape solutions. Bring release mechanics, app-version adoption, device and OS behavior, and accessibility into decisions early enough to change the solution.
- →Define how success is measured for your area. Use adoption, reliability, performance, and crash signals to judge whether what you shipped is working and what to improve next.
- →Own mobile production and platform health. Lead incident response, ensure release and rollback readiness, stay ahead of OS, SDK, and store-policy changes, and turn recurring failures into structural fixes.
- You've shipped and operated production mobile apps at meaningful scale. React Native + Expo is strongly preferred; you're comfortable with App Store and Google Play releases, staged rollouts, OTA updates, and production support.
- You have strong mobile architecture fundamentals. State and data management, caching, persistence, offline behavior, navigation, and performance — and the tradeoffs behind your choices.
- You can work below the React Native abstraction. You can read and debug Swift or Kotlin, diagnose native crashes and build issues, and work with native modules and third-party SDKs.
- You can design and verify a testing strategy. You know what belongs at the unit, integration, end-to-end, and device level. Experience with Jest, Maestro, or similar tooling is preferred.
- You diagnose performance and reliability problems systematically, using profiling, crash diagnostics, and production telemetry rather than guessing.
- You design for mobile security, privacy, and accessibility. Secure storage, authentication and session handling, sensitive-data flows, third-party SDK risk, and accessible patterns with VoiceOver and TalkBack.
- You have strong software engineering fundamentals beyond the mobile UI. APIs, data models, authentication flows, and service integrations. Experience with Java, Python, C#, Kotlin, Go, or similar is a plus.
- You operate as a technical leader. You turn ambiguous problems into sound designs, explain tradeoffs, review others' work with depth, and help other engineers grow.
- You already work AI-first. Agentic tools are a primary surface for planning, implementation, testing, and review. You delegate well-scoped work, catch plausible-but-wrong APIs and platform behavior, and remain accountable for what ships.
Bonus: experience with Expo/EAS at scale, multi-brand app architecture, or contributions to open-source React Native tooling.
