ROLE
WHC LLC (A Surerus Murphy Company) (WHC), is seeking to recruit an Estimator, Facilities. The Estimator, Facilities is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for facilities-related projects within the energy sector. This role supports preconstruction strategy, bid execution, and project handoff, while ensuring alignment with WHC Energy Services’ operational standards, safety culture, and financial objectives. Working with a good degree of independence, the Estimator partners with operations, procurement, and project management teams and is building toward leading larger and more complex estimates.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Estimating & Preconstruction

Prepare detailed conceptual, budgetary, and final estimates for facilities projects (e.g., terminals, compressor stations, plants, and related infrastructure).
Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to identify scope requirements, risks, and opportunities.
Perform and validate quantity takeoffs, labor productivity assumptions, equipment needs, and material pricing.
Incorporate WHC historical data, market conditions, subcontractor input, and risk contingencies into estimates.
Prepare bid summaries, value engineering options, and alternate pricing as required.
Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and bid review meetings, and present estimate assumptions to the Estimating Manager and leadership.

Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination

Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier pricing.
Coordinate with Procurement to ensure alignment with approved vendors and sourcing strategies.
Analyze subcontractor scope gaps and overlaps to mitigate risk prior to bid submission.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with Operations, Construction Management, Project Controls, and Safety teams during preconstruction.
Support project handoff meetings to ensure estimate integrity and scope clarity.
Provide estimating support for change orders, estimate revisions, and cost forecasts as needed.

Risk, Documentation & Continuous Improvement

Identify project risks and help develop mitigation strategies during the estimating phase.
Ensure estimates align with contract requirements, company policies, and industry standards.
Maintain organized estimate documentation for audit, review, and post-project analysis.
Contribute to historical cost data, benchmarking, and the improvement of estimating tools, templates, and procedures.

Professional Growth & Mentorship

Follow and promote WHC Energy Services’ estimating standards, procedures, and safety culture.
Promote consistency, accuracy, and best practices across facilities estimates.
Share knowledge with Junior Estimators and continue building expertise toward leading complex estimates.

Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience

3 – 7 years of estimating experience in facilities, industrial, or energy construction.

Skills and Knowledge

Solid understanding of facilities construction methods, materials, and cost drivers.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Hard Dollar, Sage Estimating, HeavyBid, or similar).
Advanced Excel skills, strong analytical capabilities, and working knowledge of the MS Office Suite.
Knowledge of Bluebeam or Adobe; familiarity with MS Project or P6 is an asset.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet tight bid deadlines.
Clear written and verbal communication, including presenting estimates to managers and clients.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is based at either our Lafayette, LA or our The Woodlands, TX office. Travel to project sites, the home office, or other events may be required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Estimator, Facilities reports to the Manager of Estimating, Facilities.
