Performing detailed takeoffs from plans and specs, covering wall types, framing gauges and spacing, board layers, finish levels, ceiling systems,
If you've spent your career counting studs, board, and grid on commercial jobs and you know what a wall type really costs to build, we want to talk to you. United Contractor Services is looking for an Estimator to price commercial interior packages, from first takeoff through bid day and handoff to operations.
NOTE: We are not looking for Estimation service providers.
You'll own estimates for metal framing, drywall, and acoustical ceiling scopes on commercial projects across our markets. Some of that work is quantitative and some is about people:
- Performing detailed takeoffs from plans and specs, covering wall types, framing gauges and spacing, board layers, finish levels, ceiling systems, and soffits
- Building labor and material pricing from productivity rates, current material costs, and project conditions
- Reading specs closely to catch exclusions, alternates, and scope gaps before they become change orders
- Writing clear proposals and scope letters, and following up with general contractors through bid day and beyond
- Walking sites and attending pre-bid meetings to understand access, phasing, and existing conditions
- Turning awarded work over to project managers and superintendents with a clean, well-documented estimate
- 2+ years estimating commercial drywall, metal framing, and/or acoustical ceilings for a subcontractor or GC
- Confident with takeoff and estimating software such as On-Screen Takeoff and QuickBid (we train on our tools, and experience with similar platforms carries over)
- Strong command of construction documents, including architectural plans, partition schedules, RCPs, and specifications
- Knowledge of UL-rated assemblies, STC requirements, and seismic or deflection considerations is a plus
- Organized and accurate under deadline pressure, especially when several bids are due the same week
- Comfortable on the phone with GCs and vendors, and good at building relationships that bring repeat work
UCS is ranked among the Top 50 Walls and Ceilings contractors in North America, and we manage commercial interior work nationwide from offices in multiple markets. Our scope covers metal framing, drywall, acoustical ceilings, EIFS, stucco, painting, and Division 8 and 10 specialties.
