Automation & Integration Engineer
Quick Summary
Designing, building, and maintaining n8n workflows for program intake, scheduling, surveys, contractor enrollment, quality assurance, and reporting Modernizing existing automations onto n8n,
What We Offer
~1 min readAbode runs utility and government energy programs across New England, and much of that work depends on automations that move information between the tools our teams and customers use: Calendly, JotForm, SharePoint, Airtable, and Salesforce. We are consolidating these automations onto n8n and adding AI steps built on Claude, so program staff spend less time on data entry and more time helping customers and contractors.
The Automation & Integration Engineer will own Abode's automation platform as we standardize on n8n: designing new workflows, modernizing existing ones, and keeping everything reliable and well documented.
This is a full-time, exempt position with total compensation targeted between $100K and $120K, depending on relevant skills and experience. The Automation Engineer will work most of the time out of their own home, with some travel as needed to work with other staff in Abode’s Burlington office and/or to attend events or meetings. Abode offers its employees a competitive benefits package, including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Disability Insurance, a matching 401k, and fully paid Parental Leave. Employees have a flexible working schedule and generous paid time off (~37 paid days off, or ~15% of all weekdays).
Responsibilities
~1 min readThe Automation & Integration Engineer will report to the Senior Director of Product and work closely with our Salesforce administrator and program teams. This position will include some or all of the following responsibilities:
- →Designing, building, and maintaining n8n workflows for program intake, scheduling, surveys, contractor enrollment, quality assurance, and reporting
- →Modernizing existing automations onto n8n, consolidating where it makes sense, with test plans and rollback steps
- →Integrating Salesforce, JotForm, SharePoint and OneDrive (Microsoft Graph), Airtable, and Calendly through REST APIs, webhooks, and OAuth
- →Building AI-assisted steps with Claude, such as document extraction, classification, and summarization, including structured outputs, validation, human review of low-confidence results, and tracking usage costs
- →Setting and following standards for error handling, retries, scheduling, logging, and alerting, and resolving break-fix issues
- →Serving as primary owner of Abode's automations, with documentation and runbooks that let teammates provide backup coverage
- →Gathering requirements with program staff and turning them into workflows that are simple to maintain
- →Managing credentials, service accounts, and access scopes securely, in line with Abode's data security and AI use policies
- →Supporting data flows into our reporting stack (BigQuery and Sigma) as needed
- →Identifying new automation opportunities and helping prioritize them with the technology team
Requirements
~1 min readRequired
- 3 to 5 years building production automations or integrations between SaaS systems
- Strong working knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, and OAuth 2.0

- API integration experience with Salesforce or Microsoft Graph/SharePoint
- Habits of good error handling, logging, and written documentation
- Ability to work directly with non-technical program staff and explain technical work clearly
Preferred
- Production n8n experience is strongly preferred, as we are actively standardizing our automations on n8n. Deep experience with a comparable platform (Make, Zapier, Power Automate, Workato) will be considered.
- Building LLM steps into workflows, ideally with Claude or the Anthropic API
- Experience with both Salesforce and Microsoft Graph, plus JotForm, Calendly, or Airtable
- Experience moving workflows between platforms (for example, from Power Automate or Zapier to n8n)
- SQL or BigQuery
- Interest in clean energy, energy efficiency, or utility programs
