Come Work With Us

Be Exceptional. Deliver Excellence. Make A Difference.

LimnoTech is a leading environmental engineering and science firm with clients who face water-related problems that are more challenging and costly than ever before. It is our job to help our clients make decisions based on the best available science and real-world constraints.

At LimnoTech, our values are to: honor the science, lead through innovation, act through partnership, commit to the long-term, and pursue big, bold actions. Are you ready to join a team of smart, talented people who are motivated every day to deliver excellence and make a difference for our clients, our partners, and the environment?

The position will primarily focus on data systems operations and DevOps for our environmental data platforms for LimnoTech’s subsidiary, Freeboard Technology. In addition, the position will support LimnoTech's day-to-day technology/IT operations as an IT Coordinator, working under the direction of the Senior Technology Officer and alongside our managed IT services provider.
This position is an in-person role at our Ann Arbor, MI headquarters.

Position Responsibilities

The person hired will manage existing production data systems and make them more reliable, observable, and maintainable. Responsibilities may include:
  • Production database and API operations: Operating and maintaining a production PostgreSQL database, an associated API, and supporting infrastructure, including routine maintenance, backup, and recovery tasks.
  • Data completeness, QA/QC, and recovery: Confirming expected sensor data are incorporated into our database and are curated and fit for use; identifying and correcting data gaps; and automating recurring quality-control and backfill tasks.
  • IoT infrastructure and observability: Improving centralized logging, metrics, dashboards, and alerts across our IoT and data-ingestion systems.
  • AWS deployment and Python infrastructure: Supporting and maintaining portions of our Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure and the Python code that drives our data processing, in coordination with other developers.
  • Platform modernization: Supporting increased functionality of existing systems and the transition to new streamlined workflows for data ingestion, review, and storage.
  • Bringing new capabilities into production: Working with other developers, engineers, scientists, and project teams to turn new data products and analytics into maintainable production systems.
  • IT coordination: Under the direction of the Senior Technology Officer and in collaboration with our managed IT services provider:
    • Track software licenses and coordinate license requests with vendors and staff.
    • Identify and address staff hardware needs.
    • Coordinate IT tasks for employee onboarding and offboarding.
    • Serve as a main point of contact with our IT provider for scoping and implementing IT projects.
    • Support development of IT policies and procedures, including cybersecurity, AI use, and data retention.
Initial responsibilities will be commensurate with experience and capability. In the first months, you will learn our as-built systems, help document them, and progressively assume ownership of their day-to-day operation. You will work closely within collaborative teams of developers, engineers, and scientists.

Qualifications

The following are required qualifications for this position:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Data Engineering, or a similar discipline from an accredited university program.
  • Working proficiency in Python for data processing, automation, or scripting.
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred).
  • Proficiency with Linux command-line environments and Git-based version control.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and good oral and written communication skills.
  • Interest in IT systems and willingness to serve as a point of contact for our team and an external IT provider.
  • Must be legally able to work in the U.S. for any employer (proper documentation is required).
Experience in one or more of the Position Responsibilities is desirable, but not required.
