EngineeringDevops Engineer

At PMAT, we work on mission critical systems that directly support the warfighter, designing, building, and securing modern digital capabilities across cloud, data, and software environments. Our teams tackle complex, real-world challenges where delivery matters more than theory, and innovation is driven by curiosity, collaboration, and purpose.

In this role, you’ll contribute to Naval Operational Architecture (NOA), working alongside engineers and operators to deliver resilient, forward-leaning solutions in support of national defense.

About the role: PMAT is seeking an experienced Systems Infrastructure Engineer to support the installation, configuration, integration, deployment, and sustainment of mission-critical computing infrastructure and software systems across Navy operational environments. This role will work closely with systems engineers, network engineers, cybersecurity personnel, software developers, and operational stakeholders to ensure fielded systems are properly configured, secured, tested, and maintained throughout their operational lifecycle. The candidate will support Windows and Linux server environments, virtualization platforms, enterprise network services, identity and access management, and system recovery capabilities while troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues and automating recurring administrative processes. The role requires strong technical problem-solving skills, hands-on systems administration experience, and the ability to support system fielding activities while adhering to established cybersecurity, configuration management, and change control requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning, installation, configuration, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment of hardware, software, and computing infrastructure across development, test, and operational environments.
  • Administer, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows and Linux servers, virtualization platforms, and supporting infrastructure services to ensure system availability, reliability, and operational readiness.
  • Configure and maintain enterprise network and identity services, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, user accounts, permissions, authentication, and access management.
  • Support system fielding activities by validating hardware and software configurations, verifying connectivity, resolving integration issues, and ensuring deployed capabilities meet technical and operational requirements.
  • Implement and maintain system patching, software updates, backup and recovery procedures, and routine maintenance activities to support system performance, security, and continuity of operations.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar technologies to streamline system administration, configuration, deployment, and recurring maintenance tasks.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues involving operating systems, virtualization, networking, authentication, storage, applications, and system dependencies, coordinating with engineering teams to identify and implement solutions.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity personnel to implement system hardening, security configurations, vulnerability remediation, access controls, and compliance requirements throughout the fielding and sustainment lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain system configuration documentation, installation procedures, technical diagrams, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and other engineering artifacts supporting deployment, maintenance, and operational handoff.
  • Support configuration management, change control, system validation, and technical coordination activities while communicating deployment status, technical risks, system deficiencies, and recommended corrective actions to engineering and program stakeholders.

About Us: PMAT is an innovative small business founded with a passion for developing forward-leaning solutions from exceptional people that increase the mission's capability. We focus on designing and building impactful digital solutions that utilize modern cloud, data, and software concepts. Our passion is working on complex and progressive challenges such as edge platform computing, containerizing legacy platforms, distributed data platforms, or heterogeneous data analysis.

We recruit, retain, and foster a team motivated to pursue passions, investigate new ways of doing things, and embody an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit. We believe in being curious about every element of a problem and experiment relentlessly. We foster continuous learning in an environment that encourages positive collaboration and expands our capabilities. We tap into collective intelligence, acknowledging that the most brilliant people may not be in the room.  Above all else, we believe that delivering and demonstrating is more potent than a sheet of paper.  We are passionate about mission-centric design and delivering effective capabilities to and for the warfighter.

Whether you’re an experienced engineer or just beginning your career, you’ll work alongside experts who are committed to solving mission-critical problems. If you’re passionate about using your skills to make a real difference, apply today and become part of a team that’s shaping the future of defense technology!

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Strong experience in systems engineering, systems administration, infrastructure engineering, system deployment, or related technical disciplines.
  • Hands-on experience administering, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting Windows and/or Linux server environments.
  • Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure services, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, identity and access management, and authentication technologies.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms, virtual machines, server configuration, storage management, and supporting infrastructure technologies.
  • Experience implementing system patch management, software updates, backup and recovery procedures, and routine infrastructure maintenance.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues across operating systems, networks, virtualization platforms, applications, and supporting infrastructure services.
  • Experience developing or maintaining administrative scripts and automation using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar scripting technologies.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles, system hardening, access controls, configuration management, change management, and secure system administration practices.
  • Experience developing and maintaining technical documentation, system configurations, installation procedures, troubleshooting guidance, and operational support materials.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently resolve technical issues and coordinate activities across multiple engineering disciplines.
