About the Role

~2 min read

An exciting opportunity is presented to work within the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network as an Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer within the Kumangka Padninthi Health and Wellbeing Unit.

The Kumangka Padninthi Health and Wellbeing Unit at Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) exists to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients receive culturally safe, connected care. As an Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer, you'll be a trusted presence across NALHN facilities — bridging the gap between patients, families, and the health system in a way that only lived experience and cultural knowledge can.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Provide direct cultural support and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families throughout their hospital journey
  • Work collaboratively with clinical teams to improve care pathways and ensure culturally appropriate communication and discharge planning
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community organisations, Elders, and support services across the northern Adelaide region
  • Contribute to the Kumangka Padninthi unit's broader goals of improving health outcomes and reducing barriers to care for Aboriginal communities
What You'll Bring
  • Demonstrated understanding of the health and social issues affecting Aboriginal communities, particularly in the northern Adelaide context
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with sensitivity across clinical and community settings
  • Experience in a health, community services, or liaison capacity — formal qualifications or equivalent lived and work experience welcomed
  • Ability to navigate complex systems on behalf of others while maintaining cultural integrity and patient dignity
  • A current driver's licence and willingness to work across multiple NALHN sites

To be eligible for this position, you must have an ASO3 - Cert III in Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Certificate (Practice or Community Care) and or Equivalent relevant Qualifications OR an ASO4 - Cert IV in Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice or Community Care) and or Equivalent and relevant Qualifications.

In this role you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills which will enable you to successfully problem solve, resolve conflicts and negotiate, including the ability to engage in difficult conversations, whilst building and maintaining relationships. An ability to effectively manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities and demonstrated resilience within a stressful and complex environment is essential to this role.

You will be joining a dynamic and expanding Local Health Network that is committed to delivering contemporary, innovative and high‑quality health services within modern facilities.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a passionate, highly driven, dedicated and progressive team.
