Hitachi Energy is seeking an HSE Project Specialist to support Health, Safety and Environment activities throughout the execution of our projects. In this role, you will partner closely with project and site teams to help ensure work is performed safely, effectively, and in compliance with HSE requirements.

You will spend time where the work happens, supporting site managers, monitoring project activities, working closely with subcontractors, conducting audits, identifying potential hazards, and helping teams address HSE risks. This is an excellent opportunity for an HSE professional who enjoys a combination of field engagement, project support, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

  • Partner with project management teams to review project scopes, tenders, HSE plans, and subcontractor qualifications.
  • Serve as an HSE focal point for site, project, and management teams during routine project execution and the resolution of emerging HSE issues.
  • Monitor project sites and support site managers in maintaining HSE compliance, including oversight and coordination involving subcontractors.
  • Identify and assess occupational hazards and help develop appropriate controls to eliminate or minimize risk.
  • Provide HSE guidance, support, and training to management and the workforce to help achieve HSE objectives and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct project site visits and audits, evaluate the effectiveness of HSE processes, identify gaps, and support corrective actions.
  • Promote HSE best practices and continuous improvement while helping build a strong safety culture.
  • Participate in the analysis of incident trends and recommend preventive and improvement actions.
  • Lead accident investigations, including root-cause analysis and development of appropriate corrective actions.
  • Maintain required HSE documentation and prepare and present routine HSE progress reports.
  • Stay current on regulatory and legislative developments affecting assigned HSE responsibilities.
  • Represent the HSE function with current and prospective customers.
  • Support ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 audit activities, including planning and scheduling internal and external audits, compiling metrics, and maintaining audit documentation.

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental health, occupational safety, or a related discipline, and/or relevant professional HSE experience.
  • 4+ years of professional HSE experience.
  • Experience supporting HSE activities in construction, project, industrial, or field-based environments.
  • Ability to identify workplace hazards, support risk mitigation, and work collaboratively with project teams and subcontractors.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
  • Excellent technical English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively within matrixed leadership and functional teams.
  • Ability to travel approximately 30%, generally to support project sites.
