Quick Summary
Purpose of the Consultancy Strengthening midwifery is a priority for UNFPA, given its importance for maternal and newborn health and for universal access to sexual and reproductive health services.
Strengthening midwifery is a priority for UNFPA, given its importance for maternal and newborn health and for universal access to sexual and reproductive health services. UNFPA supports countries in aligning midwifery with the global standards of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and in translating assessment findings into practical change. In Jordan, midwifery involves several interlinked issues, including education and training, professional regulation and standards, workforce and service delivery, and working relationships between health professions. UNFPA is carrying out a national assessment of midwifery, combining in-depth analysis with structured consultation of stakeholders, to identify gaps and blind spots and to produce a roadmap of agreed priority actions. UNFPA therefore requires two national consultants to support stakeholder consultation, information collection and analysis.
The consultants will work as a team and will divide the tasks below in coordination with UNFPA
- Conduct a situation analysis using the UNFPA data collection tools
- Review national documents in relevance to the national standards (if any) and to ICM global standards (professional framework, regulation, essential competencies, pre-service education).
- Lead the design and facilitation of three focus group discussions with stakeholders selected in coordination with JNC.
- Conduct at least 5 key informant interviews with policymakers and other decision-makers.
- Collect and consolidate information from the discussions and interviews, including gaps and blind spots.
- Contribute to drafting the national analysis, the assessment plan and the roadmap.
- Co-lead the collective validation workshop with the second national consultant.
- Support the presentation of findings and the roadmap to the Jordanian Nursing Council (JNC), in support of its annual work.
