At New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE), our purpose is to grow companies internationally, bigger, better and faster, for the good of New Zealand.

We’re looking for a hands-on Test Engineer to help us deliver reliable, accessible, secure and high-performing digital products.

You’ll join a collaborative environment that values experimentation, continuous improvement and practical engineering judgement.

As part of our Digital and Data group, you’ll work across agile delivery squads to:

  • →

Design, execute and maintain manual and automated tests across digital products and features

  • →

Build and maintain test automation using contemporary tools and frameworks

  • →

Deliver functional, integration, regression and end-to-end testing

  • →

Review requirements and technical designs to identify risks, dependencies and testing needs early

  • →

Apply risk-based testing, focusing effort where it will have the greatest impact

  • →

Identify and investigate defects, supporting teams to understand root causes and resolution

  • →

Contribute automated tests to CI/CD pipelines

  • →

Support accessibility, performance and security testing

  • →

Explore approved AI-assisted testing approaches, including test generation, defect triage and test data preparation

  • →

Provide clear quality insights to support delivery and release decisions.

Your practical testing and automation experience, along with curiosity about AI and emerging testing approaches, will be key. We’re particularly interested in:

  • Test design and delivery: Experience designing, executing and maintaining tests for digital products or services

  • Test automation: Hands-on experience with contemporary frameworks such as Playwright or Cypress

  • Programming knowledge: Working knowledge of TypeScript, Node.js or a similar language/runtime

  • End-to-end testing: Experience across functional, integration, regression and end-to-end testing

  • CI/CD: Experience integrating automated testing into build or deployment pipelines, ideally Azure DevOps

  • Strong defect investigation, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Sound judgement in selecting testing approaches based on risk, complexity and delivery priorities

  • Experience working collaboratively in an agile or iterative digital environment

  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain testing risks, results and recommendations.

Experience with accessibility, performance, security, AI-enabled features, behaviour-driven development or Gherkin would be an advantage.

If you’re an experienced tester who enjoys combining hands-on automation with thoughtful, risk-based testing, we’d love to hear from you.
