Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.

About the Role

~1 min read

At Base Power, we’re building a vertically integrated, software enabled battery manufacturing company for the electric era. We are living through a revolutionary free-fall in the cost of internal tools, and at Base we are taking full advantage to build the sharpest, most responsive internal stack in the world.

As a software engineer on the Factory Software team, you will be responsible for building the tools we use to purchase, move, manufacture, and deliver batteries to hundreds of thousands of homes. You will work closely with manufacturing engineers, warehouse associates, global supply managers, truck drivers, and quality engineers to build intuitive, reliable tools for controlling and understanding material movement. This is a role for engineers who like working closely with non-software teams, solving messy real world problems, and thinking deeply about how to leverage software to streamline processes.

Responsibilities

  • →

Set the pace: Move quickly, make decisions with imperfect information, and take responsibility for outcomes. You help the team operate with clarity and urgency.

  • →

Own critical tools: Design, build, and operate core services that power our Austin factory. You are accountable for reliability, performance, and long-term scalability.

  • →

Operate across the stack: Use cutting edge AI tools to rapidly iterate on production tools. You’re comfortable going from business requirements to application logic and down to infrastructure when needed.

  • →

Work across domains: Partner closely with supply chain, inventory, manufacturing and battery deployments teams to solve problems that don’t fit neatly into software. You translate real-world constraints into clean system design.

  • Demonstrated ability to build tools that solve real world problems

  • High ownership and accountability, with a bias toward action and a willingness to step in wherever needed to move the system forward

  • 2+ years of professional software development experience, with a track record of owning and shipping operational tools

  • Clear communication and strong opinions, with the ability to drive technical decisions while remaining open to new information

  • Product intuition, with the ability to think beyond implementation and toward user experience, operational impact, and business outcomes

  • Ability to design systems end-to-end, from API design through implementation and operation, with sound engineering judgment

Factory Software builds the systems Base uses to source, buy, receive, track, value, manufacture, and move physical material. We work directly with supply-chain, warehouse, procurement, and finance partners to understand how work happens and where software needs to change. Our work spans operational tools and the integrations that connect physical activity to financial records. We’re replacing legacy ERP workflows with Base-owned systems to reduce duplicate entry, manual reconciliation, and errors, and give our partners data they can trust.

Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.

  • First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.

  • Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.

  • Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.

  • Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.

  • Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.

  • Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.

  • Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.
