We are seeking a Routing and Siting Specialist to lead the identification and evaluation of optimal routes and sites for major infrastructure projects including transmission lines, substations and renewable energy installations. You will play an important role in balancing engineering and constructability requirements with environmental constraints, land use policies and community concerns. Responsibilities typical of a Routing and Siting Specialist in the Environment sector are provided below.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Route and Site Selection: Conduct detailed desktop and field studies to identify buildable, cost-effective linear infrastructure routes that minimize environmental and social impacts.
  • Environmental and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that proposed sites and routes comply with federal, state and local environmental laws,  regulations, and land-use policies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with landowners, government agencies, environmental groups, and the public to gather input and address concerns during the route planning process.
  • Data Analysis and Mapping: Use GIS and other mapping tools to analyze geographical data, evaluate terrain, and assess land conditions for potential projects.
  • Technical Reporting: Author and review comprehensive siting reports, environmental assessments and permit applications for regulatory findings.
  • Impact Mitigation: Develop strategies to minimize the environmental and social impacts of the selected route or site, including avoiding sensitive habitats, cultural sites and incompatible land uses.
  • Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICIATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, natural resource management, geography, engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional routing and siting experience (preferably within the utility or environmental consulting sectors).
  • Strong understanding of NEPA, the Endangered Species Act and State routing and siting application processes.
  • Ability to coordinate with various regulatory bodies and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – data collection and interpretation, technical report writing, client communications, etc.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to commit to and meet deadlines.   
  • Experience with electric utility permitting processes (application development, information requests, hearing support) would be considered an asset.
  • Experience providing expert witness testimony in regulatory hearings would be considered an asset.
  • Professional experience with ESRI mapping systems would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in impact assessment inputs would be considered an asset.
