My client is a multidisciplinary consulting engineering firm providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design services for a diverse portfolio of commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. Our team is known for thoughtful engineering, strong client relationships, and practical solutions that support long-term building performance.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Lake Forest office and support HVAC and mechanical system design across a variety of building types.

Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design, coordination, and documentation of mechanical systems for new construction and renovation projects. This role works closely with internal MEP teams, architects, and clients to deliver efficient, code-compliant, and constructible designs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC systems including air distribution, heating, cooling, ventilation, and controls
  • Prepare mechanical calculations (loads, ventilation, equipment sizing)
  • Develop construction documents including plans, specifications, and schedules
  • Coordinate designs with electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and architectural teams
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical support throughout design and construction
  • Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and support construction administration
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements
  • Assist with field visits and site observations as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical/HVAC design within an MEP consulting environment
  • (experience level flexible based on candidate)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, building codes, and energy efficiency principles
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure preferred
