Engineering Manager

Our client is a well-funded, venture-backed startup (founded 2024) building an AI-native platform for the finance and accounting space, automating workflows end to end so finance teams move faster and carry less risk. The company has raised significant capital from top-tier investors, serves customers from mid-market businesses to publicly listed enterprises, and is scaling quickly from roughly 70 people toward 200+.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role. You would report to the Head of Engineering, manage a distributed team of 20 to 30 engineers across time zones, and work on-site in New York. It is a greenfield opportunity to build the managerial layer from scratch while staying deeply technical and shipping code daily.

• →Designing and rolling out core engineering processes from scratch: performance reviews, feedback loops, reporting structures, and pod organization
• →Helping drive a major infrastructure migration (AWS to Kubernetes) alongside the SRE team
• →Making architectural decisions and writing code daily in a multiple-deploys-per-day environment
• →Partnering with Product on roadmap and prioritization while unblocking engineers and delivering major features

Tech stack: Python, Django, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS Fargate, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions

• 5+ years in backend-heavy software engineering, with a track record moving from senior IC (staff/principal) into hands-on engineering management
• Proven experience building and scaling an engineering team from the ground up, and eagerness to lead and grow a team of roughly 25 engineers while defining its performance metrics
• Genuinely hands-on: you still write and ship code daily and want to keep doing so
• Strong backend engineer with deep Python proficiency
• BS in Computer Science or an equivalent technical degree
• Thrive in fast-paced, low-structure environments; high agency, low ego, and quick, decisive judgment
• Comfortable managing a distributed team of 20 to 30 engineers across multiple time zones
• Able to work on-site in New York City five days a week

• Background at a platform-as-a-service or fintech company
• Hands-on experience with system architecture and infrastructure migrations (Kubernetes, AWS)
• Frontend experience with React/TypeScript

• Work policy: On-site, 5 days/week
• Compensation: $250K–$375K + equity
