Job Summary

 

The Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring that Lowe’s delivers outstanding pharmacy services to meet and exceed customer expectations while dispensing medication correctly and promptly. It is important that services offered comply with the pharmacy code of ethics, professional standards, and relevant government legislation.


Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Assist with receiving and verifying written prescriptions or refill requests from patients, evaluating information for completeness and accuracy.
  2. Give the appropriate wait time needed to complete prescriptions.
  3. Accurately enter prescription information using pharmacy software.
  1. Accurately dispense medications.

  • Check patients’ medication history.

  • Ensure optimal dose, route of administration, Right patient, Right doctor, Right drug and strength, Right instructions, Right quantity, and price.

  • Check for drug interactions, incompatibility, and contra-indications.

  • Initial labels after checking for accuracy.

  • Ensure errors are promptly documented and reported to the (Pharmacy Operations Manager (POM).
  1. Compound medications when necessary.
  2. Advise patients on how to use medications safely and effectively.
  3. Provide information and advice about OTC medications and health-related products, as well as make recommendations where necessary.
  4. Provide advice about health issues.
  5. Supervise and co-ordinate the work of technicians, Assistants and inventory clerks ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with company rules and protocols.
  6. Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient care.
  7. Assist with training of new staff, interns and develop current staff.
  8. Provide healthcare services such as blood pressure and blood glucose checks.
  9. Meet with medical representatives.
  10. Ensure that pharmacy services comply with the code of ethics, professional standards, and relevant government legislation, maintaining the highest standards of integrity and patient safety.
  11. Maintain prescription files and records for controlled substances, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and facilitating continuity of care.
  12. Assist with or supervise insurance paperwork, inventory control and other supplies.
  13. Maintain safe and clean working practices and environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  14. Maintain good standing with the Bahamas Pharmacy Council and Bahamas Pharmacy Association (BPA).
  15. Stay abreast of developments in the pharmaceutical industry and pursue specific training courses to enhance professional knowledge and performance.
  16. Run daily and monthly reports to monitor pharmacy operations and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  17. Participate in annual stocktaking activities to assess inventory accuracy and identify opportunities for improvement.
  18. Monitor the health and progress of patients to ensure the safe and effective use of medication, providing ongoing support and guidance as needed.
  19. Assist with the evaluation of staff performance as required, fostering a positive work environment and high-performance culture.
  20. Keep appropriate records relating to the discharge of his/her responsibilities.
  21. Executes any other reasonable duty assigned by management.


Organizational Relationships

 

This position reports to the Pharmacy Operations Manager and indirectly to the Retail Operations Manager and Retail Store Manager. He/she supervises Pharmacy Technicians, Inventory Clerks, and Pharmacy Assistants. He/she interfaces regularly with retail, sales, accounts, and HR staff.


Requirements - Education and Experience

 

  • The Pharmacist should possess at least a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (or equivalent) or Pharm. D from a recognized college of pharmacy.
  • Valid Pharmacist License from the Bahamas Pharmacy Council
  • Strong clinical knowledge and understanding of pharmaceutical principles.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with a diverse team.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy software and computer systems.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and standards governing pharmacy practice.
