Position Summary
Naviga is seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Engineer to design, implement, maintain, and optimize highly available, secure, and scalable cloud infrastructure supporting our global business operations and customer-facing platforms.
This position requires advanced hands-on expertise with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft server technologies, and enterprise networking. The Senior Cloud Engineer will work closely with Cloud Operations, Information Technology, Security, Development, and Database teams to ensure Naviga's infrastructure meets operational, security, performance, availability, and business continuity requirements.
The successful candidate will be a highly technical engineer capable of troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues across cloud, networking, operating system, database, and application layers.
Key Responsibilities
AWS Cloud Infrastructure
• Design, deploy, administer, and support enterprise environments within Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Manage AWS services including EC2, VPC, S3, RDS, EBS, ELB/ALB, Route 53, IAM, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Systems Manager, AWS Backup, and Auto Scaling.
• Design highly available and fault-tolerant AWS architectures across multiple Availability Zones.
• Configure and maintain AWS VPCs, subnets, route tables, security groups, Network ACLs, NAT gateways, VPN connections, and related networking components.
• Implement cloud infrastructure following security, availability, scalability, and disaster-recovery best practices.
• Monitor AWS resource utilization, availability, performance, and cost.
• Participate in cloud migrations, infrastructure modernization, and application migration projects.
• Troubleshoot complex AWS infrastructure, connectivity, performance, and availability issues.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code and automation where appropriate.
Microsoft SQL Server
• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Microsoft SQL Server environments.
• Support SQL Server running on AWS EC2 and other supported cloud architectures.
• Assist with SQL Server performance troubleshooting, capacity planning, and infrastructure optimization.
• Manage SQL Server connectivity, authentication, firewall, DNS, storage, and infrastructure dependencies.
• Support SQL Server high-availability and disaster-recovery technologies, including Always On Availability Groups, clustering, replication, backup, and recovery solutions.
• Troubleshoot database infrastructure issues in collaboration with application developers and database administrators.
• Assist with SQL Server upgrades, migrations, patching, and lifecycle management.
• Understand SQL Server storage, memory, CPU, I/O, and networking requirements in high-volume production environments.
Networking
• Design, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise and cloud networking environments.
• Demonstrate advanced understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing and switching, subnetting, NAT, firewalls, VPNs, load balancing, network security, SSL/TLS, HTTP/HTTPS, and network troubleshooting.
• Troubleshoot connectivity between AWS environments, corporate networks, data centers, third-party providers, and customer environments.
• Support Site-to-Site VPN, AWS Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, and hybrid-cloud connectivity.
• Analyze network traffic and resolve latency, packet loss, routing, firewall, and application connectivity issues.
• Work with security teams to ensure network architecture follows corporate security standards.
Microsoft Infrastructure
• Administer and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows Server environments.
• Support Microsoft technologies including Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, Microsoft IIS, PowerShell, Certificate Services, and Microsoft 365 integration.
• Troubleshoot Windows Server performance, authentication, networking, storage, and application-hosting issues.
• Support IIS-hosted applications and troubleshoot HTTP/HTTPS, certificates, authentication, application pools, and web-server configuration.
Automation and Infrastructure as Code
• Develop automation using PowerShell, Python, AWS CLI, or similar technologies.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code platforms such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or equivalent technologies.
• Automate provisioning, configuration, monitoring, maintenance, and operational processes.
• Identify opportunities to reduce manual administration through automation and standardized deployment practices.
Monitoring and Operational Support
• Monitor infrastructure health, capacity, availability, and performance.
• Respond to production incidents and perform advanced root-cause analysis.
• Participate in incident response and problem-management processes.
• Develop monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and operational metrics.
• Participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical production infrastructure.
• Lead technical troubleshooting during major infrastructure or application incidents.
• Document root causes and implement corrective and preventative actions.
Security and Compliance
• Implement infrastructure according to Naviga security standards and industry best practices.
• Apply the principle of least privilege when configuring AWS IAM, operating systems, applications, and network access.
• Support vulnerability remediation, operating-system patching, and security updates.
• Assist Security and Compliance teams with technical audits and evidence collection.
• Ensure cloud resources comply with organizational security and configuration standards.
• Participate in disaster-recovery and business-continuity planning and testing.
Required Skills and Qualifications
• 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, or a related technical field.
• 4+ years of hands-on AWS administration and engineering experience.
• Advanced knowledge of AWS cloud architecture and services.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server infrastructure and administration.
• Advanced knowledge of enterprise networking and TCP/IP networking concepts.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Windows Server.
• Experience supporting Microsoft IIS.
• Strong knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, and authentication technologies.
• Experience troubleshooting complex distributed applications across networking, server, database, and cloud infrastructure layers.
• Experience with virtualization and enterprise storage technologies.
• Experience with cloud monitoring and infrastructure-monitoring platforms.
• Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell and/or Python.
• Experience implementing and supporting highly available production systems.
• Strong understanding of backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
• Experience working in environments with formal change-management and incident-management processes.
• Strong technical documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or Professional, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, or AWS Certified Advanced Networking.
• Microsoft certifications related to Azure, Windows Server, SQL Server, or infrastructure technologies.
• Experience with Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
• Experience with AWS multi-account architectures and AWS Organizations.
• Experience with hybrid cloud and multi-cloud environments.
• Experience supporting SaaS or enterprise software platforms.
• Experience supporting production systems operating across multiple geographic regions.
• Experience with enterprise monitoring and observability platforms.
• Knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD methodologies.
• Familiarity with security frameworks and compliance requirements.

Role Expectations
The Senior Cloud Engineer will serve as a senior technical resource within Naviga's Cloud Operations organization and is expected to take ownership of complex infrastructure issues from initial investigation through resolution.
The position requires an individual who is equally comfortable designing new AWS environments, troubleshooting Microsoft SQL Server performance and connectivity, analyzing network traffic, administering Windows infrastructure, automating operational processes, and responding to critical production incidents.
Success in this role will be measured by the reliability, security, performance, scalability, and operational efficiency of Naviga's cloud infrastructure and services.
