Summary:

The cook is responsible for preparing and serving three daily meals for clients in the Substance Abuse Residential Program and residents in the Hideaway Program. Meals must be prepared according to the approved dietitian's menu, with any substitutions documented as required. This position ensures that all meals are prepared safely and in compliance with health codes, agency policies, and food safety standards, while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.

The cook is also responsible for preparing for daily internal inspections and quarterly county inspections and for implementing any corrective actions as needed. Duties include maintaining kitchen equipment (refrigerators, freezers, stove, and fire safety equipment) in safe, working condition and keeping accurate temperature logs for all refrigerators, freezers, and sinks.

 

Essential Responsibilities and Target Outcome



Cook Specific Responsibilities and Target Outcomes:

·         Responsible for preparing and cooking meals according to the established kitchen menu and dietary guidelines for program clients and residents.

·         Document any menu substitutions as required.

·         Maintain accurate daily logs of temperatures for all refrigerators and freezers.

·         Record sink temperatures three (3) times daily.

·         Properly label and date all opened and stored food items, including leftovers and unused portions, ensuring safe storage in refrigerators and freezers.

·         Dispose of expired food in accordance with food safety regulations.

·         Ensure the kitchen is kept clean and organized at all times, including after meals.

·         Maintain sufficient food supplies by monitoring inventory and notifying the supervisor when restocking is needed.

·         Follow all food safety standards, including the use of food stickers, proper labeling, and handling of perishable items.

·         Ensure all annual DCF (Department of Children and Families) required trainings are completed by all kitchen crew members.

·         Maintain a valid Food Handler/ServSafe certification.

·         Attend and actively participate in the agency's mandatory monthly all-staff Zoom meetings.

·         Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the kitchen and residential programs.

·         Keep the kitchen and dining area clean.

 



II. Knowledge/Skill-Based Functions

·         Possesses the ability to communicate with clients and staff in a simple manner.

·         High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

·         Minimum of 1 year of experience in food preparation and kitchen operations (institutional or residential setting preferred).

·         Knowledge of food safety standards and sanitation practices.

·         Ability to follow menus, recipes, and dietary requirements.

·         Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team.





III. Additional Job Functions

  • Keeps the work area clean and organized.
  • Attends and actively participates in staff meetings as required
  • Completion of all DCF training is required annually.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to New Hope CORPS policies and procedures.

  • Able to increase work pace and prioritize accommodating emergencies or rush assignments.
  • Seeks additional assignments upon completion of duties, as time allows.
  • Clarifies assignments/responsibilities with administrative staff.
  • Remains up to date on all departmental-specific policies/procedures/regulations.
  • Performs in other roles, as required, to meet the demands of the department.
  • Availability to attend monthly mandatory staff meetings via Zoom.
