Operations Manager - Marine Supply & Ship Chandling

A prominent marine supply and ship chandling specialist is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead their Paarden Eiland facility. The successful candidate will oversee the end-to-end supply chain, ensuring that national and international vessels receive technical stores, food provisions, and specialised marine coatings with precision and speed. This role is central to the organisation's reputation for reliability, requiring a leader who can navigate the complexities of port logistics, vessel schedules, and diverse inventory management. The position operates within a high-pressure environment where delivery windows are dictated by vessel movements, requiring a flexible approach to working hours, including potential after-hours or weekend availability to meet emergency vessel requirements. Key Responsibilities Operational Execution: Direct all vessel delivery activities, managing the flow of bonded and non-bonded goods, deck and engine supplies, and cabin stores. Logistics Coordination: Plan and execute deliveries to vessels at port, anchorage, or offshore locations, ensuring alignment with port authorities and customer timelines. Inventory & Warehousing: Supervise warehouse operations, including stock accuracy, waste reduction, and the specialized storage of regulated marine products such as Hempel coatings. Supplier & Procurement Liaison: Partner with the procurement team to monitor vendor performance, ensure product availability, and secure competitive pricing from food and technical suppliers. Customer Relationship Management: Act as a key point of contact for vessel agents and owners, providing operational input on quotes and resolving service issues promptly. Compliance & Safety: Ensure all activities adhere to port regulations, customs requirements, and food safety standards while maintaining a culture of health and safety in the warehouse. Team Leadership: Supervise and develop a multidisciplinary team of drivers, warehouse staff, and operational support, optimizing resource allocation across shifts. Requirements A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Maritime Studies, or a related field. Specific experience or familiarity with Hempel marine coatings. Extensive experience in operations management specifically within ship chandling, marine supply, or port logistics. Deep understanding of vessel husbandry support, port operations, and the technical requirements of maritime customers. Proven ability to manage complex, short-notice vessel requests under significant time pressure. Strong commercial acumen with a focus on cost control and margin protection. A valid driver’s license and the flexibility to respond to vessel needs outside of standard office hours.
