Banquet Captain - The Gathering Spot Northyards

Position Title: Banquet Captain

Reports To: Banquet Manager / Operations Manager

The Gathering Spot (TGS) is a private membership club founded in 2016 for professionals, creatives, and entrepreneurs in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., committed to fostering community, culture, and connection through curated experiences, content, and dining. 

Additionally, TGS operates Retreat, an exclusive, private rooftop club designed to facilitate refined social interaction and high-end hospitality for leaders and culture-shapers seeking meaningful relationships and elevated experiences. 

Lead on-site banquet and private event service, translating approved banquet event orders into polished execution while coordinating staff, culinary timing, beverage service and timely client communication.

• →Pre-Event Planning & Setup:
  • →Review approved banquet event orders (BEOs), event timelines, diagrams, menus, allergies, staffing and service standards before each event.
  • →Conduct pre-shift briefings, assign stations and verify room setup, tabletop presentation, equipment and service readiness.

• →Event Service Leadership:
  • →Direct banquet servers and bartenders during setup, service, transitions and breakdown; reinforce professional presentation and teamwork.
  • →Coordinate meal pacing, dietary requests, beverage replenishment and guest needs with culinary and event leads.

• →Client & Member Experience:
  • →Serve as the designated floor-level service contact during events, communicating proactively with the event manager and host.
  • →Resolve routine service issues promptly and escalate material scope changes, guest concerns or safety issues.

• →Controls & Reporting:
  • →Confirm attendance, labor hours, equipment returns, consumption records and authorized event changes according to policy.
  • →Document event outcomes, incidents, breakage, service delays and follow-up needs in a timely post-event recap.

• →Safety & Compliance:
  • →Maintain food safety, sanitation, responsible beverage service and safe room-flow standards.
  • →Ensure staff follow accessibility, emergency response and event-specific security requirements.

  • →Perform other related duties as assigned.

• 3+ years in banquet, catering, hotel or upscale event service preferred; previous captain or shift-lead experience preferred.
• Ability to interpret BEOs, lead teams, sequence service and communicate effectively with clients and culinary staff.
• Knowledge of banquet setups, food safety, beverage service and accurate event documentation.

• Ability to stand and move for extended periods
• Use standard workplace equipment
• Lift or move supplies and event materials as needed for the role, with or without reasonable accommodation.
