Responsibilities
~2 min readThe Billing Analyst III is responsible for managing end-to-end billing operations within Avalara's Finance Operations department, including invoicing, accounts receivable, credit and refund processing, and reconciliation between Salesforce (CPQ/Billing) and NetSuite for customers in the US and EMEA regions. This role operates with a high degree of independence and serves as a resource for less experienced team members. You'll report to Sr. Manager Billing.
- →You'll generate, review, and approve customer invoices and invoice batches in Salesforce CPQ/Billing and NetSuite for US, Canada, and EMEA regions, ensuring accuracy against contracts, order forms, and pricing terms.
- →You'll manage end-to-end accounts receivable (AR) case resolution, including billing discrepancies, invoice disputes, and customer billing inquiries.
- →Review and apply credit notes, debit notes, refunds, and account adjustments in NetSuite and Salesforce in accordance with company policy.
- →You'll process cancellations, cancellation-for-nonpayment, and de-provisioning requests, ensuring correct effective dates and required approvals.
- →Perform billing reconciliation between Salesforce and NetSuite to identify and resolve sync errors, duplicate invoices, and payment/credit application mismatches.
- →You'll prepare reconciliation reports for customers on monthly or high-dollar-value billing arrangements and support month-end close activities.
- →You'll review subscriptions, quotes, opportunities, and sales orders in Salesforce to confirm correct billing setup prior to invoicing.
- →Manage recurring and usage-based billing cycles and validate that contract renewals and amendments flow correctly into billing.
- →Maintain accurate billing records and supporting documentation to ensure audit readiness and compliance with company SOPs and SLAs.
- →Collaborate with Collections, Order Management, Customer Account Management, and Sales to resolve billing or system integration issues.
- →Provide guidance and support to Billing Analyst I team members on standard billing workflows.
- Education: B.Com, M.com/MBA (Finance), or a related degree in Commerce, Finance, or Accounting (or equivalent practical experience).
- Experience: 5 or more years of experience in billing, accounts receivable, order-to-cash, or revenue operations, ideally within a SaaS or subscription-based business.
- Systems: Hands-on working experience with NetSuite and Salesforce (CPQ/Billing) for invoicing, credit memos, or AR case management.
- Technical: Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for reporting and reconciliation.
- Awareness of billing/AR automation tools and process automation trends (e.g., HighRadius, RPA, AI-assisted reconciliation tools), with openness to adopting new automation as billing processes evolve.
