Job Description

Position: RAD Lab Production Assistant
Department: RAD Lab Production Kitchen
Reports to: RAD Lab Production Kitchen Manager
Location: East Village, San Diego
Employment Type: Full-time

Position Summary

Join Bird Rock Coffee Roasters' RAD Lab Production Kitchen as a Production Assistant, where you'll play a vital role in maintaining our high standards of quality and safety. This entry-level position is perfect for someone who values teamwork, consistency, and takes pride in behind-the-scenes work that directly impacts our customers' experience across 10+ cafe locations.

Primary Responsibilities

Kitchen Operations & Production Support

Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen facilities, including walls, floors, equipment, and reusables
Assist with production tasks, including syrup making, chia preparation, and lil dipper production
Support order fulfillment processes for retail locations and customer orders
Perform routine kitchen maintenance tasks

Food Safety & Preparation

Execute proper FIFO (First In, First Out) inventory rotation procedures
Assist with food preparation tasks, including chopping and slicing, measuring and weighing with accuracy
Maintain food safety standards and protocols at all times
Support quality control measures throughout production processes

Team Collaboration & Communication

Work collaboratively with kitchen team members and communicate effectively
Maintain open dialogue about kitchen operations and safety concerns
Contribute to a positive, learning-oriented work environment

Safety & Compliance

Uphold kitchen safety standards as a shared responsibility
Follow all food safety regulations and Bird Rock protocols
Report safety concerns or incidents immediately
Maintain a clean and organized work environment

Qualifications

Required:

Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
Strong team collaboration skills and positive attitude
Reliability and consistency in work performance
Quality-focused mindset with attention to detail
Adaptability to changing production needs and priorities
Food safety awareness or willingness to obtain certification

Preferred:

Food service background or kitchen experience
Basic knife skills for food preparation
Familiarity with commercial kitchen operations
