Transnational Provision
Transnational provision is of growing strategic importance to Griffith College and is being highlighted as a key area of focus by various Irish national agencies involved in higher education provision. As such, the College wishes to ensure the roll-out and subsequent management of transnational provision are successful and rewarding for all learners and staff engaged with it. The College has direct experience of delivering transnational education dating back to the late 1990s, when it successfully delivered programmes from its campus in Karachi, Pakistan. More recently, it has successfully delivered programmes in Sarajevo and Munich. It now wishes to appoint a Transnational Partnership Manager, China – Finance, to support its current transnational education project.
Role Summary:
Griffith College, Ireland’s largest private higher education institution, seeks to appoint an experienced academic leader and programme manager with expertise in transnational education to lead the establishment of Griffith’s presence in China. This role will implement academic, governance, and reporting structures, as well as student support and engagement protocols, in collaboration with its transnational education partner in China.
This opportunity is being offered as an ‘add-on’ function to an existing role within the college. The successful incumbent’s workload will be reviewed and adjusted in consultation with their current line manager, with an expected allocation of their time to this project during the contracted period.
Scope of Responsibility:
The primary objective of this special purpose contract is to provide the necessary expertise and time to establish appropriate management, teaching, reporting and governance structures to support the successful delivery of the College’s BA (Hons) in Finance in China, and to establish a blueprint for future programmes in China and, possibly, other global locations.
Working with key stakeholders in Griffith College and our Chinese partner, the primary functions of the Transnational Partnership Manager, China – Finance, will be:
- Establish academic structures that include local programme team meetings and engagement with module leaders in Ireland and China;
- Implementation of a physical office and resources at the Chinese partner;
- Develop timetables for foreign lecturers, teaching structure and access to necessary teaching resources;
- Development and coordination of teaching, learning and assessment activities;
- Development and coordination of learner support and engagement activities;
- Development and coordination of learning support provisions;
- Establishing and subsequently refining reporting and feedback mechanisms from learners, lecturers, and staff associated with the programme;
- Implementing examination protocols for learners in China that, at a minimum, mirror QQI and Griffith College norms;
- Deliver relevant modules in their area of expertise to gain a lecture room-level understanding of learners’ and staff's experience;
- Support the BA (Hons) in Finance – China, Programme Director, once appointed.
The Transnational Partnership Manager, China – Finance, will work closely with other College units as strategic partners to ensure an integrated approach to transnational delivery and learner success:
- Faculty of Business;
- Learner Support and Engagement;
- Quality Assurance and Enhancement;
- Digital Learning Supports;
- Global Engagement Office;
- Learning Support;
- Library;
- Students’ Union.
Travel
Some travel to China during the contracted period will be required.
Qualifications and Experience
Applications are invited from suitable candidates who fulfil the following criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree and a relevant postgraduate/professional qualification;
- 10+ years’ leadership experience in higher education, preferably with experience in transnational delivery;
- Experience in quality assurance and QQI policies for transnational education;
- Strong data literacy; experience deploying dashboards and using analytics to inform resourcing, and teaching and service enhancement.
In addition to the above, the following is highly desirable:
- Experience with CRM and Student Information Systems;
- Change management communications expertise;
- Familiarity with Chinese culture and Chinese teaching norms.
