About the Role

As a newly created position, the Manager Strategic Business Development will be responsible for establishing the business development function across the Centres and Venues portfolio. The role will focus on creating the foundational strategies, systems, partnerships and market insights necessary to support future growth, increase utilisation, and embed a consistent, customer-focused approach. The Manager Strategic Business Development is a pivotal leadership role within the Office of Sport, responsible for driving sustainable growth, increased utilisation, and commercial performance across the Sport and Recreation Centre and Olympic Venues portfolio. Reporting to the Director, Customer Operations, the role leads the development and implementation of strategic business development initiatives that identify new market opportunities, strengthen customer value propositions, and support long-term organisational sustainability. 

Working across a diverse range of stakeholders, the role provides strategic advice to senior leaders, leads market and customer insight activities, develops innovative products and services, and fosters partnerships across government, community, sporting and commercial sectors. The position also leads and develops a small team while building business development capability across the broader Centres and Venues network. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic growth and commercial performance by developing and delivering business development frameworks, identifying new revenue opportunities, expanding market share, and improving utilisation across the Centres and Venues portfolio. 
  • Drive customer and market-led innovation through market analysis, customer research, product development, and commercial intelligence to identify emerging trends, respond to customer needs, and support informed business decision-making. 
  • Build partnerships and organisational capability by establishing strategic relationships across government, community, sporting and commercial sectors, while coaching and supporting teams to deliver customer-focused growth initiatives and achieve business outcomes. 

 

You are a strategic and commercially focused leader with a proven ability to identify growth opportunities, develop successful partnerships, and influence decision-making at senior levels. With strong experience in business development, commercial strategy, and stakeholder engagement, you combine analytical thinking with a customer-centric approach to deliver sustainable business outcomes. You excel in complex environments, confidently navigate competing priorities, and are skilled at leading change, fostering collaboration, and building high-performing teams. 

 

Requirements

  • Obtain and maintain a Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012. 
  • Current Driver Licence (Class C). 
  • All appointments are subject to reference checks. 
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a National Criminal History Record Check. 
  • Wiliness and ability for travel regular across NSW to visit sites and work with local teams
