JOB SUMMARY
The Administrative Specialist I provides routine clerical/administrative support which may include word processing, data entry, ordering supplies, opening/sorting mail, copying, filing, faxing, answering phones, greeting visitors, providing basic information, and/or scheduling meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and 6 months of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and alphanumeric sequencing.
- Knowledge of postal regulations.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Teams.
- Ability to create and maintain files and records.
- Ability to learn new computer software.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to interface effectively with other office personnel working in a team environment.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- Ability to use functional reasoning and apply rational judgment in performing diversified work activities.
- Ability to exercise judgment in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which may be subject to frequent change.
- Ability to follow both oral and written directions.
- Ability to operate commonly used manual and automated office equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate with department heads and other city employees.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is sedentary and requires the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: hearing, kneeling, reaching, speaking, standing, talking, and walking.

Must pass background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening as a condition of employment. A motor vehicle record check and job-related doctor's physical exam may also be required. Safety-sensitive positions remain subject to random drug and alcohol testing after hire.
