Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion.\r\nDeputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.\r\n
Summary Statement
Legal Administrative Specialists at the Delaware Department of Justice play a vital role in supporting the work of the Criminal Division in Sussex County. The Criminal Division is responsible for prosecuting criminal offenses throughout the State and is comprised of several specialized units, including the Misdemeanor Trial Unit, Felony Screening Unit, Felony Trial Unit, and Special Victims Unit.\r\nLegal Administrative Specialists provide essential administrative and legal support to Deputy Attorneys General and staff within these units. Responsibilities vary depending on assignment but generally include preparing and maintaining legal case files and documentation; conducting criminal record checks; requesting police and investigative reports; typing and proofreading legal correspondence and documents; assisting with discovery preparation; scheduling and maintaining calendars; preparing subpoena lists; filing documents; and ensuring accurate and organized case records.\r\nThese positions require strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Legal Administrative Specialists also interact professionally with law enforcement, victims, witnesses, and members of the public and may provide back-up coverage for the main Criminal Division Receptionist during absences.\r\nUnit assignment will be determined based on operational needs. This posting may close prior to the listed closing date if a successful candidate is identified.\r\nAs part of the Department’s ongoing commitment to building a strong team of Legal Administrative Specialists, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and may be considered for current and future vacancies across all units within the Criminal Division in the Sussex County Office. Essential Functions
Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.� Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Applies agency laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in maintaining and processing agency information.\r\n Serves as a liaison with the public, clients, agency staff and others to exchange information and explain agency services, laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.\r\n Assures effective coordination of operational functions for assigned unit/attorneys.\r\n Arranges for the delivery of legal paperwork.\r\n Types correspondence and legal paperwork.�\r\n Schedules, coordinates, and confirms court dates, appointments, interviews, intakes, and meetings.\r\n Establishes tracking and monitoring systems and conducts follow up to ensure timely resolution of matters.\r\n Maintains and controls data and/or filing systems to ensure effective, accurate and easily retrievable legal documentation.\r\n\r\n\r\n
