You will work closely with our People & Culture Manager and be a visible, in-person resource for employees and leaders alike. This is a role for someone who reads a room well, handles sensitive matters with a refined sense of discretion, and gives managers advice they can act on the same day. You will lead key moments in the employee lifecycle, from performance cycles to difficult conversations to exits, while helping us sharpen the policies and practices behind them.
- Serve as the first point of contact for employees and managers on workplace questions, concerns, and conflicts, responding with clarity and speed.
- Coach managers through performance issues, team dynamics, and difficult conversations, equipping them to lead with confidence.
- Lead employee relations cases end to end, including investigations, warning meetings, documentation, and follow-up, ensuring fair and consistent application of policy.
- Coordinate annual and quarterly performance reviews, supporting managers in delivering feedback, setting goals, and tracking progress.
- Contribute to annual compensation reviews, including market benchmarking, to support internal equity and external competitiveness.
- Guide the onboarding and offboarding experience, including exit plans and exit interviews, and turn what you learn into actionable insights.
- Manage sensitive and time-critical situations with composure, escalating appropriately and protecting both the employee and the organization.
- Develop, review, and refine HR policies, procedures, and practices so they reflect how our team actually works.
- Stay current on federal, provincial, and state employment legislation, ensuring compliance for our Canadian and U.S. workforce.
- Maintain accurate employee records in BambooHR and produce reporting that informs leadership decisions on engagement and retention.
- Seasoned Advisor: 3 to 5 years of HR experience with a strong focus on employee relations, ideally within a fast-growing SME.
- Trusted Confidant: A refined sense of discretion and the judgment to handle sensitive situations with fairness and care.
- Manager Whisperer: Proven ability to coach and influence leaders at every level, and to hold your ground when the situation calls for it.
- Cross-border Expert: Working knowledge of Quebec and Ontario employment standards; familiarity with U.S. employment law is a strong asset.
- Clear Communicator: Full professional proficiency in French and English, written and spoken.
- Calm Operator: High tolerance for ambiguity, with the instinct to bring structure and clarity when things move fast.
- Culture Carrier: A genuine understanding of how culture drives performance, and the ability to translate it into practical people initiatives.
- Credentialed Professional: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field. CRHA or CRIA designation is an asset.
