The stretch is required to cover for the current Partnerships Manager who is on long leave. This position leads the Communication, Advocacy and Partnerships (CAP) unit and represents the team at CMT level. The stretch assignment is required for 3 months with in-person working modality in The Gambia. The Partnerships Specialist/Manager coming on stretch will focus on leading the Country Office Communication and Advocacy and strengthening engagement with public and private sector donors, including development of funding proposals, funds management and quality reporting.
The position of the Partnerships Manager oversees the working of the CAP team, providing line management support to 3 members of staff: Communications Officer (NOA), Youth Engagement Officer (UNV) and Partnerships Specialist (IUNV). This position is critical in ensuring the office's Communication, Youth Engagement and Partnerships’ strategies are implemented and monitored to enable sustained funding and engagement. The position also supports the Representative and the Country Office in pushing the fundraising agenda to ensure risks to country programme funding are mitigated.
- Fundraising and Resource Mobilisation - Support fundraising efforts through proposal development, donor priority mapping and pipeline management.
- Grant Management & Reporting - Support ongoing grant management, including grant kick-off processes, compliance analysis and fund utilization monitoring. In addition to this, ensure systematic tracking of donor obligations and timely delivery of quality donor reports.
- Communications and Youth Engagement - Ensure the finalisation and implementation of the communication, external media and visibility and youth engagement strategy.
Requirements
~2 min read- An advanced university degree in international relations, political science, communications, international development, or another relevant technical field.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in communications, programme management, resource mobilization, external relations, or a related area, preferably in an international or multilateral setting.
- Experience of drafting, editing, and proofreading donor reports, proposals, briefing materials, or similar documents in the humanitarian or development sector.
- Experience of conducting background research and political or contextual analysis, synthesizing information from multiple sources into clear written outputs for senior staff review.
- Experience of monitoring donor landscapes, development assistance trends, or multilateral policy environments and translating findings into actionable summaries.
- Experience of working in communication, print and broadcast media, or interactive digital media.
- Experience of coordinating inputs from multiple stakeholders across teams or organizations and consolidating them into coherent documents under tight deadlines.
- Experience of working within the UN system or with an international development or humanitarian organization.
- Experience of working with international counterparts across cultures, both verbally and in writing.
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
Funding arrangement
This is a temporary development opportunity and there will be no changes to the staff member’s status (position number, level, etc.).
The Office will cover the ticket for economy class travel and 100% of the UN DSA rate during the first 30 days, and 50% DSA for the remaining time.
