Job Title: Student Administrative Assistant to the Department Chair of History and Health, Medicine, and Society
Department: College of Arts & Sciences
Student Employment Type: Federal Work Study
Responsibilities:

Assist HS department and HMS program with general administrative, logistical, and organizational tasks as follows--

  • Administrative support: Organize files, update spreadsheets, prepare documents, and assist with routine departmental correspondence.
  • Scheduling: Help coordinate meetings, maintain calendars, and prepare meeting materials.
  • Department events: Assist with planning faculty meetings, student events, and departmental initiatives.
  • Communication: Draft or distribute announcements, reminders, and informational materials to faculty and students.
  • Data and records: Help maintain departmental databases, course information, faculty syllabi.
  • Research and projects: Conduct basic research or compile information for departmental initiatives, reports, accreditation materials, or curriculum planning.
  • Website/social media/outreach: Assist with updating departmental webpages, newsletters, or social media content/help design flyers.
  • Special projects: Assist the chair with short-term projects that may arise.
Qualifications:
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and reliably.
  • Proficiency with OR willingness to learn Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, including Word/Docs, Excel/Sheets, and email/calendar tools
  • Professional and courteous interaction with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
Hours of Position:
  • 5 hours per week
