A leading specialist in the fresh produce sector is looking for a commercially driven and proactive FMCG Commercial Manager to join their team in Cape Town. This role is central to the organisation’s trading operations, requiring a candidate who can effectively balance procurement and sales while nurturing vital relationships between growers and customers. The successful individual will focus on sourcing high-quality exotic and specialty vegetables, expanding customer channels, and ensuring a seamless supply chain. This position offers a significant career trajectory, with the potential to progress into a full Commercial Manager role as you take ownership of specific categories and strategic sourcing initiatives. Key Responsibilities Cultivate and manage customer accounts within the retail, hospitality, and wholesale sectors. Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand the client’s market footprint. Source and procure specialty produce from both local and international growers. Build and maintain long-term, trust-based partnerships with the farming network. Generate accurate quotes, manage order cycles, and oversee successful delivery. Monitor market trends, seasonality, and pricing to maintain competitive margins. Liaise with logistics and distribution teams to ensure operational efficiency. Research and introduce new product lines based on food trends and chef demands. Maintain comprehensive records of pricing, supplier agreements, and volume forecasts. Requirements Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in a commercial, procurement, or sales-focused role. Strong commercial acumen with a clear understanding of margins and pricing structures. Exceptional communication and negotiation abilities. High level of organisational skill with meticulous attention to detail. Ability to thrive and multitask within a fast-paced trading environment. A proactive, "hunter" approach to sales and business development. Resilience and adaptability when dealing with the fluctuations of the fresh produce market. Drivers license essential to visit suppliers and farms. (SARS Fuel rates reimbursed). Preferred Qualifications Previous experience specifically within the fresh produce or agricultural industry. A relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Logistics, or Agriculture.
