Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to perform administrative work in support of the\r\nmanagement, staff and daily operations of Freedman’s Historical Park and\r\nPatuxent River State Park.

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service is currently accepting applications for Administrative Specialist III positions at Freedman’s State Park in Brookeville, Maryland (Montgomery County), and Gunpowder Falls State Park in Kingsville, Maryland (Baltimore County). These positions provide assistance in the formulation and monitoring of the park’s operation budgets. The incumbent prepares and processes park invoices and bank deposits, monitors expenditures, corporate card purchases and encumbrances and maintains park files. These positions reconcile revenue, may operate a cash register for sales and tracks inventories. These positions make recommendations concerning operational needs and priorities and respond to inquiries from the public and park staff.\r\n\r\n\r\nIn the area of customer service, these positions are responsible for providing current information to customers on park policies, regulations and service charges. The candidates are also responsible for distributing mail and maintaining office files, compiling statistical data to include visitation figures and mileage forms, preparing seasonal contracts and purchasing office supplies for park staff.\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\nExperience: Two years of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.�\r\nNotes:\r\n1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.\r\n2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n Two years of experience using the following office hardware/equipment: printers, scanners, personal computer, external hard drives, copier, I-Pad or similar device, Smart Phone, digital phone system, cash register\r\n Two years of experience using the following computer software: Word, Excel, Quicken, Access, Publisher, Internet Explorer, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive.\r\n Two years of experience dealing with customers/public in the following manners: telephone, e-mail, written correspondence, face to face contact.\r\n Two years of experience monitoring and reconciling fiscal/budgetary resources.\r\n \r\n\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n
