At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we believe education is more than the pursuit of knowledge – it is a catalyst for transformation. Our mission, grounded in democratizing education, is to create access for learners from every background and empower them to achieve their aspirations and advance their careers.

We are committed to delivering rigorous, flexible programs that are both personally fulfilling and professionally rewarding, while contributing to the betterment of society. Since 2004, Yorkville has been among Canada’s few private, for-profit, fully accredited degree-granting universities, with campuses in Ontario, British Columbia, and New Brunswick. Together with Toronto Film School, we offer creative and academic pathways at both the college and university levels, cultivating a multidisciplinary environment where innovation and the arts converge.

Our community is vibrant and diverse. Many of our learners are adults balancing education with careers and personal commitments. Every member of our team – whether in teaching, operations, or technology – is dedicated to removing barriers and expanding access. Together, we deliver flexible, industry-informed learning that leads to meaningful opportunities.

At our core is human connection – guiding people to reimagine their futures in a community defined by opportunity, creativity, and growth.

Reporting to the Manager, Facilities, we are hiring a Facilities Assistant to help keep our new downtown Toronto site running smoothly, safely, and ready for the people who use it every day. As our new Facilities Assistant, you will thrive in a practical, active, and highly visible role, building relationships and staying one step ahead of what needs attention. You will support classrooms, offices, meeting rooms, events, storage areas, and shared spaces, working closely with the Manager, Facilities, and campus teams to ensure students, faculty, staff, and visitors have a positive experience in the building.

This is a rewarding role for someone who likes solving everyday problems, keeping spaces organized, and being the person others can count on when something needs to be moved, set up, fixed, checked, or escalated.

This is a full-time, campus-based role, Monday to Friday, at our 120 Bloor Street East campus. Availability to work the following shifts is required, 8 am to 4 pm, 9 am to 5 pm, and 11 am to 7 pm. Flexibility to support evening (until 9 pm) and weekend events and campus activities is also needed.

Visible campus impact. You will help create the conditions for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to move through the day comfortably and confidently. From preparing classrooms and meeting rooms to supporting events, responding to facilities requests, and addressing issues before they disrupt the day, your work will directly shape how people experience our new, enhanced campus.

Trusted daily judgment. You will be relied on to notice what needs attention, decide what you can resolve, and know when to escalate to the Manager, Facilities, building operations, IT, security, or a vendor. In a student-facing environment, you will bring a steady, professional approach when issues come up, helping people feel informed, supported, and confident that the right next step is being taken.

Practical facilities growth. You will work closely with an experienced Manager, Facilities who can help you deepen your understanding of campus operations, maintenance routines, vendor coordination, building systems, and workplace practices. You will build your facilities experience in a role with variety, visibility, and connection across Academic, Student Experience, Student Services, IT, and campus operations.

  • Support campus readiness. You will complete daily building walkthroughs to identify maintenance, cleanliness, furniture, setup, and space needs. You will respond to work orders, complete minor maintenance tasks, and escalate issues related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, building operations, or specialized repairs when needed.
  • Prepare shared spaces. You will set up offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, and event spaces so they are ready for use. You will assemble, disassemble, move, and store furniture and assets, helping ensure the right spaces are prepared at the right time for classes, meetings, student activities, and special events.
  • Contribute to safe operations. You will support planned maintenance and compliance checks, including fire alarms, emergency lighting, clear egress paths, and general facilities protocols. You will identify risks, put up appropriate signage or barriers when needed, and communicate issues clearly to the Manager, Facilities.
  • Solve practical problems. You will bring a calm, resourceful approach to unexpected situations, whether that means responding to a facilities issue, troubleshooting a room setup, finding a better way to organize storage, or helping teams prepare for an event. You will know when to act, when to ask questions, and when to escalate.
  • Maintain supplies and storage. You will help manage facilities supplies, equipment, furniture, and storage areas, keeping materials organized and accessible. You will assist with cleaning, upkeep, patching, painting, and general facility-related work as needed, while helping bring structure to a growing and evolving campus space.
  • Collaborate across campus. You will work closely with Academic, Student Experience, Student Services, IT, campus operations, vendors, and building partners to support day-to-day needs. You will build trust by communicating clearly, following through, and bringing a professional presence when students, faculty, staff, or visitors need support. You will balance responsiveness with clear boundaries around what Facilities can support directly and what needs to be escalated.
  • The practical experience. You have experience supporting building maintenance, facilities operations, general repairs, campus operations, property support, event setup, or a similar active environment. You can safely complete physical work throughout much of the day, including lifting up to 50 lbs, moving furniture, setting up rooms, and supporting general maintenance needs. You may have training, certification, or experience related to facilities, maintenance, health and safety, building operations, or customer service.
  • The safety mindset. You understand the importance of safe work practices and can recognize risks in a shared building environment. You know how to keep walkways, classrooms, offices, and emergency paths clear and can follow protocols for fire safety, cleanliness, equipment use, and incident reporting. Exposure to building codes, compliance checks, or Joint Health and Safety Committees would be an asset.
  • The ownership. You are self-motivated, observant, and willing to step in where support is needed, whether that means setting up a room, moving furniture, organizing storage, responding to a small repair, or helping resolve an unexpected issue. You take pride in doing the work well, no matter the task, and you understand how everyday details contribute to the student, staff, and faculty experience.
  • The communication skills. You communicate professionally and build trust with students, faculty, staff, visitors, vendors, and internal teams. You are responsive, respectful, and clear. You know how to represent Facilities professionally in a shared campus environment, especially when people need reassurance, direction, or a practical solution. You are comfortable asking questions and following directions while also taking initiative.
  • The problem-solving. You can think through practical challenges and take action to keep spaces functional and the day moving. You are not easily flustered by unexpected issues. You can prioritize what is happening and help create a clear path forward. You can distinguish between a task you can complete, an issue that needs to be escalated, and a situation that requires support from a vendor, building operator, IT, security, or another internal team.
  • The flexibility. You are comfortable working on site five days a week and staying active throughout the day. You can occasionally adjust your schedule to support evening or weekend events, urgent facilities needs, or special campus activities.
