At Biffa, we’re passionate about making a difference. We’re looking for a proactive, organised and motivated Operations Support Assistant to join our Municipal team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced operational environment, supporting teams and helping to deliver high-quality services to our customers and communities.

Working closely with our Supervisors and Operations Manager, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our daily operations run safely, efficiently and effectively.

As our Operations Support Assistant, you'll help coordinate daily activities, support our frontline teams and ensure we consistently deliver against our contractual commitments.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting daily operations – Working alongside Supervisors to coordinate resources, workforce planning and service delivery.
  • Driving performance – Helping ensure services are completed on time, meet contractual requirements and achieve key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Improving efficiency – Identifying opportunities to improve vehicle and crew productivity, including supporting route planning and operational changes.
  • Championing safety – Promoting our Safer Together value by ensuring safe working practices, correct PPE use and compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring standards – Supporting operational monitoring, including vehicle CCTV and on-site checks, and assisting with investigations where required.
  • Building relationships – Communicating effectively with colleagues, customers and operational teams to maintain excellent service standards.
  • Supporting our people – Encouraging teamwork, recognising great performance and helping create a positive and supportive working environment.

We're looking for someone who is hands-on, approachable and confident working with people at all levels.

We're looking for a proactive, organised team player with:

  • Experience in waste management, transport, logistics or a similar operational environment.
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Confidence using IT systems, including Microsoft Office.
  • The ability to support teams, manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A good understanding of operational efficiency and customer service.
  • A full driving licence.
  • Previous team leader or supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with KPIs and health and safety procedures.
  • An IOSH qualification or LGV licence (or willingness to undertake fully funded LGV training).

At Biffa, we're not just managing waste – we're helping to create a more sustainable future.

Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and our values of Teamwork, Fairness and Respect (#TFR) shape the way we work together every day.

We’re committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive workplace where everyone feels valued, respected and empowered to succeed.

If you're organised, enthusiastic and enjoy being part of a team that makes a real difference every day, we'd love to hear from you.

At Biffa, we love working with waste. Whether we’re turning it into sustainable power, finding new ways to recycle it or simply keeping it off the streets, we believe every day is an opportunity to improve the lives of millions. It’s a view that’s shared by our 11,500+ people around the country, who trust us to provide them with a career that’s always rewarding, often challenging, but never dull. And it’s why we’re the UK’s No. 1 choice for business waste management.

Being inclusive is core to our culture at Biffa; we believe different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds are key to developing a creative and effective working environment that represents our communities and generates the best outcomes for colleagues, customers and stakeholders, which is why you’ll find us championing diversity, equity and inclusion at every turn.
